nuts...
Unplanned trip to Alpine today. The biting flies were driving Ben nuts this morning so I went to fetch another bottle of Permethrin. The concentrate gets diluted and is applied with a spray bottle. Ben has yet to learn that the spray bottle is his friend. I have to chase him around to kill those pesky flies. The good news is, fly season will be over in about a month. 95,102,58,0,B

Ben should have a back rub soaked in a Permethrin and diesel to use at his pleasure.
If only it was that easy...
I remember my dad making an apparatus with old burlap suspended between two post, and soaked the burlap with old oil/diesel mix and as the cow walked neath it it would rub the cow etc, simple but worked
Does Ben like the big red brush/scratcher?
I think we need a Friday night film of you chasing Ben around with the spray bottle, sped up and "Benny Hill"-ified, John.
What Nat said...
I third what Nat said
I think both ideas are good ! but suspect the bag hanging between two posts would need to be super-sized for Ben's horn swath!!! or perhaps a two-fer .. Film with John chasing Ben with a diesel-soaked burlap!
It's a testament to John's careful treatment of Ben that he can even get that close and puts hands on him... (and others)... last time I was close to one of those critters..of that type and size it was sending vibes out that sounded like an "invite" for all the wrong reasons! ;-)
re: " Unplanned trip to Alpine today." well heckfire, that sounds like the PERFECT situation for a "drone delivery", eh?
some day........... right?
A small garden type pump up sprayer might not be as hissy as a spray bottle.
It really hit 102 yesterday? WOW
My horses hate the spray bottle. Now I use a bucket and a painters mitt. They don't mind getting rubbed down while they're eating grain.
Steve ... that sounds like a great idea. I did similar on a smaller scale with my dogs. They hated the spray bottle but I could put bug repellent in my hand and rub it on them.
The spray method worked...and I think Ben enjoyed the game.
We always wiped the horses. That way we could get around their eyes without getting any in them.
