Typically the determination is made in a lab (FABIS method). There is a field method which checks forewing and femur lengths as well as weight, but can be somewhat inaccurate.

Yes, I keep bees. An hour later, give or take, we'd have a tub full of honey and comb and everyone would have their share of bee stings and swollen body parts!

I'm sure those bees were not near as nasty as these African guys... but last year, I turned over a piece of plywood and though I ran like hell several hundred feet away - I still got a couple dozen stings even as I was 200 feet away! Reminded me of my bee tree days!

Larry Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02282254026681944326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120586935905234915.post-6214495910359414752015-06-14T21:06:51.103-05:002015-06-14T21:06:51.103-05:00The Rev. appears to be correct. The Rev. appears to be correct.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16154628771774506399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120586935905234915.post-57468257948864938712015-06-14T12:54:18.343-05:002015-06-14T12:54:18.343-05:00Apparently flying around southwest Texas can be th...Apparently flying around southwest Texas can be thirsty work.
