A blog post is not the end all and be all of philosophical discussions, but I have an occasion to form an opinion, now, and I will share it.

I think we all need to take a break from talking about what our "rights" are and what we have a "right to." Very seldom, when anyone mentions their rights defensively, were that person's rights in question to begin with. When someone disagrees with you and challenges your opinion, they are not saying you don't have a "right" to your opinion. They are simply pointing out what they believe are consequences of your actions or thoughts and would like you to consider them. The point is not to win anything or to put you down, but to have a conversation, to have a sharing and listening.

There is a lot of noise out there, where people take extreme opinions and suggest things that are silly and drastic and disrespectful and, sadly, even abusive. If you really want to listen to the conversation, you have the ability and the responsibility to ignore the noise and focus on the heart of the matter. If all you're doing is responding to what you consider to be trash talk, guess what, you're not being constructive either.

John, people say rude things to you when you are simply sharing what you believe to be true. It's sad when people choose to reject someone because of their beliefs and way of life and perspective, which is valuable, no matter what. And you, in particular, lead an exceptionally rich life that should give all of us an occasion to listen a little more carefully.

What is jarring, I think, to many readers is when you make a post, such as this one, which seems to involve a lot of recycled opinions we have all heard before in the media, on the internet, in print, on tv and seems to have very little to do with the strength and peacefulness you are trying to cultivate at the Field Lab. You seem to be trying to find a truly individual life that relies on the most essential, thrives on the creative and cuts out the unnecessary. Yet you seem to engage yourself in trains of thought that are just as entrained in corporate America's scheme as the food and power industries you are trying to free yourself from.

It's really not your responsibility if people are offended by the opinions you express on your blog. But I think there is a tiny grain of an issue at the core of the noise and clamor and rude comments. I think that's what people are feeling deep down, even if they are acting rudely by calling you crazy and whatnot. I think a deeper conversation could be fruitful, if that's where it's going. If other commenters are wondering what your critics mean, I think that gets to the core of it.

I can't speak for everyone, but that's what bothers me: I find myself wanting you to cast aside what opinions you have about the Obama administration and the federal government, which can only be abstract, shadowy, and pre-digested, and I want to hear what you yourself have experienced in life, seen with your senses. What ideas have you crafted out of the forge of your own experience of living. That is valuable. And it goes beyond what opinions and values I or anyone else might have and becomes invincible to any criticism, detractors, cynicism. It would be real. TFL blog is, most of the time.

Or: we can just expect you to continue to live your life and carry any and all opinions you have, pre-digested or not, and others can observe and chat about it from a distance. There is nothing wrong with that, either. You are you, no matter what.

Thanks for what you do,
Peliens
Joe Hayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14273897946803577292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120586935905234915.post-88714558898933510102013-03-01T23:05:50.831-06:002013-03-01T23:05:50.831-06:00It is sicking to read such. You're welcome, but the credit does no...@pamit

You're welcome, but the credit does not belong to me. The credit goes to Jehovah God and his son Jesus Christ. I'm simply passing along their messages and teachings. Thank the source of my words and ideas. Thank God.

I'm just a guy typing on the internet that happens to be quoting the most awesome source material ever written. In a small way, I'm doing my best (albeit imperfectly) to act responsibly as the instructions in Galatians 6 indicate.

Galatians Chapter 6

1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5 for each one should carry his own load. 6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor. 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

I'm trying to be gentle in reminding John and others the importance of loving each other, and that the man that prepares his tools of destruction is really destroying himself. Everyone needs a gentle nudge and reminder to stay on the good path now and then.

I'm an inadequate messenger, but I do my best and hope that Jesus' magnificent teachings will make up for my limited abilities and touch a few hearts to motivate a few people to seek the real truth from God instead of the all too common false teachings masquerading as truth from selfish men, politicians, and their followers.

Perhaps I visit this blog for selfish enjoyment too. I think God did great work when he made Longhorns as well as sunshine and flowers that grow in the desert and vegetables that grow in greenhouses and gardens. :)

Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05265115976155488097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120586935905234915.post-65788131157141086662013-02-28T20:30:30.499-06:002013-02-28T20:30:30.499-06:00John, a good quality, tactical pump shotgun loaded...John, a good quality, tactical pump shotgun loaded with buckshot would be a valuable addition to your property! It is...John is free to pursue his life with a gun.

It is a Constitutionally protected right.

A true Christian does not put a Nation's constitution above God's law.

God instructs us to love one another, good and bad.

John's desire to prepare himself to kill one of God's children is absolutely a protected right under the Constitution. MAN'S CONSTITUTION. It is John's choice to do that.

It just happens to be that choice sends John on the path to eternal destruction for not loving God and his children. Sadly many have chosen a similar path to destroyed themselves, and many continue to do so today.

The bible warned us that times such as these would test us.

2 Timothy Chapter 4
1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

The bible tells us that we are not to be the judge of God's children.

The man who prepares to kill another with a gun chooses to elevate him/herself above God to be their judge, jury, and executioner BEFORE GOD. I'm not talking about an earthly civilian court, but the far more powerful and important court of Jehovah God.

A true Christian that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ doesn't care what earthly governments do about Gun Control or any other issue. They follow a higher law and look forward to a day when God rules over everyone.

The man holds his gun to protect his earthly existence does not love his brother, does not love God, and wanders down the path of his own everlasting destruction. It's a choice anyone can make.

Each of us can also choose everlasting life.

No earthly Constitution or Law can prevent someone from making the second choice.Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05265115976155488097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120586935905234915.post-72416068569893453802013-02-27T22:11:07.199-06:002013-02-27T22:11:07.199-06:00You know, it's interesting: the commenters her...You know, it's interesting: the commenters here that espouse that they just love your blog, but insist on telling you that they will no longer read on Sundays or 'gun' post days.

I guess you are a wonderful example, a free citizen with the right to pursue your life, your interests---just as long as every post & every choice you make agrees with them.

Good grief, you anti-God, anti-Bill of Rights people. At first they were very apprehensive, they lived there entire lives with an irrational fear of guns. After we spent couple of hours with friends just shooting at targets, they changed their opinion of them. They began to understand the gun isn't what is dangerous. Like you said, It is a tool.
