Today marks seven months since the last time it rained at TFL. Had a very close call this afternoon but only a 5 second burst of tiny/wind driven droplets. Pieced together newly purchased parts for some catchment on the north side just in case. Since this portion came together well - I can proceed to hook up the rest. New calf from the post 2 days ago came in for a visit with a crew. My friend JD brilliantly named it Ilford ....after the black&white printing paper I used to use back in photography school.
Had a peaceable kingdom event tonight with the longhorns and rabbits all having dinner together. 79,93,54,0,W

ReplyDeleteJust advise....
Down spout could be beefed up by either long re-bar you might have left over and crete them in the ground with weld to the top or buy a C channel (how ever many down spouts), #5 should work and do them the same.
Just another point of view...but my guys say I am wrong most every day :-(

That peaceful kingdom thing is the greatest. Not exactly the lamb laying down with the lion, but sort of a creature communion in itself, and you got to see it. Too bad about that "teaser" rain.
ReplyDeleteIs the GS gonna make a go of it again?
If you would dig a ditch from the Mississippi river to your place... I think your problems would be solved. I will loan you my shovel.
ReplyDeleteWow JB I was just thinking the same thing tonight at work as to how they can build the Alaskan pipeline for thousands of miles but cant build a pipeline from the Miss.River to the southwest. That would really be something america could use and take a lot of burden off the Colorado river. It would also put a lot of out of work people to work building a real tax payer back project that actually shows good use of our money. Much to logical for a politian or the government to comprehend.:'(
ReplyDeleteHi John quick question, with 7 months of no rain what are you doing for water there. I know you can go to Studdy Butte for water but can you use the water over to your southwest at the springs? Just curious since I will be looking to answer that question in Sept when we head down.
With your catchment area you will fill that tank in a couple of hours when it does rain. Hope you have plans for 20-40,000 gallons of storage. The key is to catch it when you can.
ReplyDeleteI love "peaceable kingdom"...I'm sure you could sell your photography online to all of us dreamers....
ReplyDeleteJW that Rain Cloud made me think of a girl I knew a long long time ago.
ReplyDeletelove the peaceable kingdom shot. so symmetrically composed, painterly. was it hard to pose them?
ReplyDeleteJohn, I am reminded of a joke I heard while in El Paso many years ago. A passerby, asked a local. "How much rain do you get here?" The local said, We get 7 inches a year?". the passerby said, "That's not much!" The local said, "You should have been here the day it rained!"
