Plumbed in the second downspout on the north side and both downspouts on the south side. One of my palo verdes didn't make it so I popped a new sprout into the waterboxx that had the faulty plant. I'm happy to report that my weird new fivefingers shoes have been worn for 11 strait days with no ill effects (other than they have gotten rather stinky, so I washed them today). 77,91,63,0,W

ReplyDeleteI don't understand what you are doing with the drains? You started with one 6" nominal drain, added a 6" drain to the original drain thru a 4-way. So don't you end up with a 6" orfice going in to the tank anyway? Are you trying to constrict for some kind of BP? Am I jumping the gun, and there is more to come?

Given a 4" pipe can handle ~14,000 gph it would take 7" of rain per hour to overwhelm the tank inlet. That's assuming the total collection area is a large 2000 sq ft as measured on a horizontal plane. It is more likely the gutter system will overfill first without multiple gutter outlets. Regardless the relatively small tank size would be filled quickly anyway. Having an extremely large storage capability is the key to rainwater collection success.

That is a pretty good size roof area. With JW you never know ..... he might be planning a pool! Aquarium! or Benita's bath tub! Just hope they get enough rain to prove it all.
I think a coat of paint is going to be neccesary on the pvc so the sun wont make it brittle
ReplyDeleteJohn,here is some un-asked for advice...you should check into painting your pvc to avoid damage from the sun. The sun will make it brittle in time. I am sure there are other methods that will work better than paint but that will help.

ReplyDeleteI'm interested in your experience with the funky shoes. Met a fivefinger vendor at an outdoor-gear festival this weekend and got very curious about these creatures. Are they really comfortable? Do you have any real support in there? The stink factor also occurred to me -- although they seem built to be well ventilated, the materials didn't seem all that breathable. Oh well. Walk on, report back, please.
