the long hike

Not in the mood for construction today so I took a hike instead.  First stop - the swamp...two ducks been spending time there since the dam blowout.  Long trek across the canyon and up and around the big hill east of me.  There is a forest of Ocotillo up there - some doing a late bloom.  Quite a few strange new flowers blooming as well.  Pretty pooped after the long walk when I spotted that Benita finally laid down after a long day of grazing real grass.  Felt her pain so I did a late afternoon water delivery to her so she wouldn't have to walk back to the house.  71,83,55,0,B

  1. How old is Benita? She looks really tired. To drink laying down

  3. a forest of Ocotillo in bloom is a pretty thang........

  4. Well Benita sure is loved. I've noticed all the cows are trying to get as much of the green stuff as they can and as fast as they can as it has been a long dry spell. With care like this, Benita will live a few more.

  6. Thanks for sharing the photos! The landscape, etc. are otherworldly compared to my neighborhood in DC.

  10. Gorgeous! I'm jealous, our ocotillo are still struggling to green up. No blooms in sight, yet.

  13. It is amazing to me that even after a hot long drought year the desert comes back to life beautifully. Nice pictures.

  15. Yep, the desert seems to have greened up pretty well in the Benita shot.

That's a lot of Flower Power up there.

Fantastic shot from the hill top. That would've been one of the first things I would have done. That shot really shows the vast beauty of your location, and how isolated you are there in your wide valley.

We're looking forward to seeing you soon.

    Good luck with everything.
