Finished up 11 "pieces" of siding today - and did the "fun" screws inside along the north edge.
I made an announcement on Benita's facebook page today. I'm pretty sure that she has gone off to the last roundup in the sky. She has been gone now for 9 days. I tracked her on Sunday in the direction she went the last time she left TFL, but didn't find anything. Went by Dick Cain's today to tell him to be on the lookout. He said I certainly bought her some extra good years as old as she was. I still have some trails to check. At this point, I reckon she's out there not far from home - at peace after a long/good life. 66,81,47,0,W
My twins (9 years old) ask about Benita almost every day. Tonight as they watched the rabbits feed on carrots, one pointed to movement in the distance and asked, "Is that Benita?".
ReplyDeleteShe is likely the most loved cow on the planet.
You are so lucky to have had such a good friend.
It saddens me that she could be gone. She was a good companion and I know she liked her range feed and hay. And water, and attention. She brought joy and happiness to many, many people.
ReplyDeleteRIP Benita (if it's true...but i'll keep hoping not)...she wasn't about to leave without eating as much of that sweet feed as possible. Condolences to you and Mr. Floppy....i think he loved her too.
ReplyDeleteUmmmm....I hope that is not the case. Let's wait a little longer as you continue to search.

We will raise out glasses for Benita tonight. I hope she shows up. Our hopes and thoughts are with you. Long live Benita and the field lab!
ReplyDeleteSay it ain't so. I'm going to wait for more definitive proof before I tell my two girls the news. I almost blurted it out just now, which would have destroyed any hope of an on-time bedtime tonight.

We will keep a candle burning here, and hope for the best. She is such a beautiful animal and will be dearly missed.
ReplyDeleteJW - Sad news - my sympathies.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this. She's a constant in this life of ours.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that hope wins out, and you find her. If not, then I'm sure the Field Lab an d all its followers know how to celebrate the life of a great friend. .
ReplyDeleteIt saddens me to possibly think she is gone. I loved watching her daily updates. You truly had a special bond with her. RIP Benita, I will miss her.
ReplyDeleteSO SORRY! She will be missed.
ReplyDeleteVery sad news. Benita has brought lots of joy and happiness to all of us that have had a pleasure to read about her life.My condolences to you.
ReplyDeleteLong live Benita in our hearts and minds.
ReplyDeleteYour care and special relationship with Benita has been a good life lesson for us all. And...we hope it ain't over yet.

If Benita doesn't come walking back up--I bet the old gal does--how about you get a puppy to replace that dog you loved so much and just flood us with awe shucks puppy pics. I will not complain one bit. A man in the desert alone for three years deserves a puppy! And a dog raised in the desert with longhorns and burros and bunnies and Terlinguanites would have to be cool!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I have my Benita mug. She was a part of my morning ritual. You were a good friend to her and I'm sorry for your loss. RIP BENITA.
ReplyDeleteI am not ready to say goodby to her just yet. Let's think more positive that she is just having a good time and plans on getting home a little late.
ReplyDeleteWe still have Mr Floppy Ear, no need for a dog with all the wonderful burros and cows still left to make friends with. Cows are some of the most protective animals on the planet.
I agree bout the dog. Ya can't cuddle up to a burro or a longhorn on a cold winters night. Cows ain't a mans best friend to lay at your feet while you sit on "da porch" sip'n a cup. Yup, every desert man needs a dog.
ReplyDeleteIf she really is gone, I know you made her last years special. I hope she's just hunkering down.
ReplyDeleteBrought tears to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's not true but as others have said, your care for her is a great life lesson and we can all be a little more caring in this world.
ReplyDeleteIt is taking me a while to accept that perhaps Benita is gone. She was beautiful inside and out and so easy to love. Interesting you received the “Benita and Me” piece of artwork so close to the time she disappeared. I studied it for a long time . . . the two of you were beautiful together. For a season you were her best friend. Or, was she your best friend? Amazing how much can be shared without a word spoken.
ReplyDeleteI hope you take up those that offered to help do a grid search. Benita might be out there and needs your help.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a hard time with this. I never loved a cow before. Can you tell us why you think this may be her time? She's gone off lots of times before, once for 5 months. I know she's as old as any longhorn can get and you've taken good care of her. Your place just won't seem the same without her.

ReplyDelete....sigh...
ReplyDelete(crossing fingers Benita is found) But, if she has gone, she will be missed! You were both lucky to share life's road for a spell and we are lucky to be included in your journey.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you, Mr Floppy, and the rest of TFL gang.
bummer
ReplyDeleteHoping she's just on a little vacation in the hills.... I'll say a prayer for her return!
ReplyDeleteIf she's gone, I will raise my toddy and wish her all the platitudes that a bovine of her stature truly deserves!!!
Viva Benita!!
I'm not ready to give up yet. I'm hoping she returns soon.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad...
ReplyDeleteHappy you and Benita got to spend some time together and glad she received some comfort in her golden years. I hope she was able to share some of her exciting adventures and desert wisdom with you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Trails Benita.
