have faith

Back in my NYC days, I used to take a good friend's toddler to do laundry with me on Sunday mornings (I knew the little guy since he was born).  One particular Sunday on our way to the laundromat, we passed a church with lots of people outside.  He asked me what that building was.  That moment has stuck with me all these years....a 5 year old child not knowing what a church was in a city filled with churches.  I wasn't attending church myself at that time, but I certainly had known about them when I was even younger than he.   Photo from my confirmation class graduation at the Tell City United Methodist Church in Indiana.  (back before I could grow a beard)  First person to pick me out wins a free Benita Memorial Tshirt and a set of Field Lab postcards. Note: Others in this photo are not allowed to enter the contest!

Romans 13: 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. 11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

"LISTEN CAREFULLY, my son and daughter, to the master's instructions, and attend to them with the ear of your heart."   St. Benedict

  15. Haha, had to chuckle at all the comments! Even tho I knew you way back when i had a little trouble picking you out! I won't spoil the contest by blowing your cover, but you were always on the cutting edge of the fashion of the day! Some day I would like to see that picture of you in the suede fringed vest you had. I believe you had a fairly large peace medallion that you wore with it!

I didn't go to that church growing up. But do know all the folks in the picture. Boy, you all were looking good back then.!

  16. Aargh. I'm too late. Carey already won it. Second from the left, top row. And the goofy kid right in front of you on the next row also in matching glasses & red jacket is your younger brother. Come to think of it, he looks like everybody's younger brother.

Do we get anything if we spot Conan O'Brien? [Fourth from left, top row.]

That's gotta be worth something, no?

  17. A fun pic from 'back in the day'. My, but those skirts were short for Sunday School! Can you be any other but the kid wearing the glasses in the back row? I doubt it!
