Ronald Mahan - the Oryx are on East Rim Ranch. Thanks Steve - good article...The dream is still very much alive. I am looking to get some additional training in the near future. FYI - those are paragliders, not parachutes.
Another invasive species set loose in a near predatory free environment to devastate the ecosystem like horses and asses do. Sorry, I don't just see a magnificent African plains animal, I see what it can do to the already ravaged Chihauahan Desert. The near extinct Desert Pronghorn facing yet another competitor for the meager fodder because some fool thinks it looks cool.
So they are for "hunting". And just like the Axis deer on the Edwards Plateau of your state, these oryx will escape and the whitetail population will suffer. That's man's dominion over all the creatures of the earth!
My understanding is that these were brought in from AFrica years ago and released on the White Sands area to eat the invasive plant species. They have since naturalized and are in southern NM. From this pic, it seems they have expanded their horizons.
