First 50
Finished casting the first 50 half ounce coins (actually a heavy half ounce - these coins when stamped and polished weigh in at about 17 grams...a half ounce is 14.17 grams). I will be lucky if I get ten more pours out of the only two molds I have. Checked in with my friend who makes the graphite molds today and he said he is shutting down his operation. I have been thinking about milling my own molds so looks like I will get my chance. 65,71,57,0,B
What happens to the molds that they wear out?
ReplyDeleteThe force from the torch flame is abrasive to the graphite. Heating anything to 1800° over and over again takes its' toll.
ReplyDeleteLooking sweet.
ReplyDeleteI guess this sure beats sitting around doing jigsaw puzzles at the senior center like some people here. Imagine doing all this hard work in your condition - a real trooper. I hope you are continuing to be careful. :-) Those coins could even be used as fake gambling coins.
ReplyDeletecan you get a wax mold of the existing to use to create another metal form or at least you can start with as a guide for the next?
ReplyDeleteHappy holiday everyone.
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteHow can I order one of the new coins, that is if they are not all sold?
The coins will go on sale next month
