making a good impression

Been thinking about my upcoming stamping session.  Since my new coins will have a larger, more detailed image - a simple hammer blow won't quite cut it.  As I have some other elaborate metal forming projects in mind, I've been (tool frenzy) shopping for a good deal on the best option that will work well with the minting process and won't limit me too much for other projects due to size.  Where else can you get a 12 ton H-frame hydraulic press that costs just over 100 bucks, weighs almost 50 pounds, and FedEx shipping is only $6.99?... Harbor Freight.

    with that thing you could punch your coins directly out of sheet stock – forget casting them.

    John is ther a set limit on the amount of coins and if so what are your thoughts on numbering them 1 of 50 ect..

    Don't think that will do more than scribe faint impressions; even silver dimes require 40 tons force...

    I don't know anything about casting but I am anxiously awaiting the final outcome of what works and what doesn't. Another "lab" experiment....

    Sounds like a good deal. It reminds me of a taco press (good thing) from Mexico that I had years ago while visiting San Antonio but I was slipped sugar drug in AA while giving someone a ride in 1984 by Carribean people (Cuban and Puerto Rican) and lost my car (found it stripped in Mexico by Del Rio when I went there to buy a cross) and my college ring and taco press were taken, but the Mexican American police and apartment managers saved me from death and an African American neighbor with a gun came over and the Cuban with a knife left. My insurance got me a better car which I gave to my daughter.

    needed one of those the other day for a canted front sight on an O pap. Did it the hard way ( 4 hrs.).You're getting set up. I'm gonna have to come out there and be you're good buddy.Fabricated a tang for an Zastava m77 couple of weeks ago to convert the stock to a mac 90 dragunov.Made it from 1/4 in. angle marine aluminum. After hack sawing, filing, fitting and drilling a hole through it with a hand drill I bet I had 5 hours in that.Could have done it in 15 minutes with that mill bit.It's all in the tools......
