Life off the grid in the SW Texas desert. An experiment in sustainable living. NUMBERS AT THE END OF EACH BLOG POST: temp at 8PM,high temp, low temp, rainfall, wind conditions(CalmBreezyWindyGusty). YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/c/TheFieldLab

I have not figured this post out. But I know I drove enough miles today to see a smart specialty female vet today-the only one in central and south TX- dermatology. (Was interdigital fernicular-takes steroid cream and antibiotic for rest of dogs life because of ingrown hair). It's either this or that.
The top photo shows how many frequent flyer miles I have accumulated. The bottom picture shows how many FF miles needed for different destinations - flying business/first class. Once you experience flying a level or two above coach - you never go back. Bottom line...I need to plan some trips. If I don't use any FF miles by late next year, they will all expire. Just doing one trip extends the expiration date for 2 years.
I just discovered that any account "activity" will extend your miles for an additional 18 months with AA. This means that if you're not ready to travel yet, you just can spend a few hundred miles on a magazine subscription and all your miles are extended for 18 months.
If I lived where you do and wanted a huge change of scenery to get a true respite, I'd go to Big Sur, except I'd wait until September because both the number of tourists on Hwy 1 & the prices will be shooting up there shortly.
American flies into Monterey. Use some of your miles to rent a car too and bam, you're in business for getting some of the best eye candy in the US.
So that's my vote.
(But then I'd vote for Big Sur for me too right now and I don't live in the desert.)
Canada has a lot to offer with diversity. And you might be able to visit your family along the way. Good restaurants I saw on t.v. In Toronto, cabins on the St. Lawrence River, Jasper and Banff in the Rockies in the west, and so on. Tell them you are thinking of moving there. Haha they might look the other way. If you bring a gun (will be confiscated) and are arrogantly rich - we'll never mind.
How about Washington D.C.? There is so much to see and do there. You probably could not get it all done. Then there is the beautiful countryside of Virginia and the Applachian trail and area.
Ah, where to go. What a choice. I just watch travel films. Hong Kong, Morroco, Iceland, Caucasus Mt. Area......so many choices. Let us know what you decide.
TY Rita for the webcam. In the roundabout picture, the building on the left was the homeless shelter, the red building was the Filipino gambling center and meeting place ,and the gray building was where I lived on the second floor. The window on the second floor was my living room window where I lived with my wolf/Shepherd dog. The window overlooked the water and cruise ships docked there. My wolf and I sat up there at night and ate a bag of fried chicken from one of my jobs and drank beer. :-)
Oh, I forgot, the building on the far left in the roundabout picture was where a 35 year old girl lived who got caught. She received $3,000.00 worth of Cocain in the mail.
Hey, I'm pretty sure American partners with Alaska Air, too. I just checked one of those cruise clearing house sites and, honestly, the prices are not that bad up there. Lots of competition for passengers keeps the tickets cheap I guess? Even if John Wells doesn't want to, I'm sold! Thanks for the idea, Rita and Margery! ;-)
