plant day...












Took a walk around the estate this morning...found a new plant.  Pretty sure I got a positive ID on it thanks to Debi Cates.  http://debicates.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html  Chopped one open hoping for the inside of a mini watermelon.  Ran some errands down south and prepped for the 50% chance of rain late tonight.  The doppler shows most of the front moving off way east of me but 50/50 always gets my attention.

Rounded out plant day by finally starting a batch of creosote essential oil. (thanks for reminding me Ratgirls)  This method involves using almond oil to suck the scent out of the sap.  Next up, an alcohol based extraction method for a tincture.  Might try Everclear first because organic super booze is pretty expensive.  http://organicalcohol.com/  76,96,64,0,B

    I would suggest you consider a soxhlet extractor.

    They are very efficient and use a small amount of solvent

    Refluxers are easy to make though and it probably wouldn't be hard to come up with a solar driven one with a large capacity.

    "Organic" alcohol, ha, ha ,ha.

    Need to set up that still JW and start collecting agave roots. Make your own "organic" alcohol for medicinal purposes.

    I only knew of creosote from the old creosote plant that I grew up near. They treated the utility poles and railroad ties. I was wondering why one would want the essential oil from a creosote plant and I found that kind of creosote was a coal-tar creosote (which I happened to like the smell-most people don't) but there is a wood based creosote too. Does the creosote plant smell like the old coal-tar creosote? And what will the essential oil be used for?

    If you haven't already looked at it, hit up holy scrap hot springs as a blog. Mikey Sklar and his wife Wendy do A LOT of tinctures, extractions, and desert harvesting for more natural remedies.
