Getting ready to map my full 80 acres with the drone. Decided to take a hike and mark my corners by GPS to see how they line up in the big picture. I marked the easy spots by the road this afternoon. Going to do it in two missions with DroneDeploy...my original 40 acre tract and my two south 20 acre tracts. Each mission will take a fully charged battery and produce about 200 photos. 86,89,69,0,B
Cool ... and impressive. Back in the 1960's we tried to do the same with a 100-foot tape measure on our 3/4 acre, which was pretty much state-of-the-art equipment back then. We eventually had to hire a surveyor. Wish you had been around back then!

ReplyDeleteOnce while on a hunting trip we came across an old "witness tree" along a dirt road. I imagine technology has made these a thing of the past.
ReplyDeleteThe survey for my old property in upstate NY listed several trees and piles of rocks that marked my border.
ReplyDeleteThat's the way it was done back then. They used a special chain for the measurements between markers.
ReplyDeleteJohn, If I were you I think I'd be tempted to build an observation tower on TFL. Would be nice to sit and look over the whole place on a quiet evening.
ReplyDeleteSam Finn --- Why go to all that trouble and expense? He just showed us how he can inspect all of his property - with his camera drone. And that can be done - without climbing a tall flight of stairs. Putting in an elevator would only add more expense.
ReplyDeletemany places in the West, you might come across a rock cairn with an old tobacco can inside. This was the "state of the art" marking system fifty years ago. A few mining claims were also marked in that way.
