Wounds and kisses...

Proverbs 27:  Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Successful launch today from SpaceX.  Falcon 9 rocket with Crew Dragon capsule carrying 2 American astronauts to the ISS.  This is the first launch of American astronauts from American soil with an American made rocket since the Shuttle program ended in 2011... and the first stage successfully landed to be reused.  83,91,65,0,B

Fixed a very small part...

Soldered on this tiny tooth that broke off the center wheel on one of my key wind Elgin pocket watches.  Had to be the smallest repair of anything that I have ever attempted.  For scale - that is the edge of a dime in the photo.  This certainly helped.  Won't know for sure if it was a success until I reassemble the movement. Video of the repair on Monday.  71,98,89,0,B

He that is in you...

John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Fully disassembled the spare key wind Elgin pocket watch movement that was manufactured in 1883 (video Monday).  I got it cheap off of eBay.  Only 16 parts inside.  After cleaning - will they all go back together and function?  91,99,61,0,B

Gearing up for my first full disassembly and cleaning of a key wind pocket watch movement and all the parts.  Setting up the webcam to record the action so I will know how to put it back together.  This is a spare movement that donated a mainspring for another Elgin.  I have a new mainspring coming for this one by the end of the week. 88,95,54,0,B

the shuffle continues...

Clearing out shelves in the hut by my computer has created more chaos.  Like I have said before - getting things in order out here is like a giant Rubik's Cube.  Making room for 57 more pocket watches coming this week and I need to get more organized - so all my stuff has to get moved around and sorted so I can have space to work on them efficiently (in order to eventually sell them).  Tiny house living...  80,89,69,0,W

from an old college friend...

Nice to find friends from my past who like me eventually came to Christ:

Here we are once again, apart intentionally for the health and well-being of others, still worshipping as believers in the risen Lord, for our faith in Christ cannot be quarantined, only our physical presence can be cordoned off.
This week, a colleague of mine at Geneva College, shared the image of the sheep tumbling down the hill. The timing of the image fits perfectly with the lessons for this week, which speak of the Good Shepherd.
As we read through Acts 6&7, Psalm 23, 1 Peter 2, and John 10, the question arises for us, who are we following? Who were we following before this current crisis? Were we following "too much the devices and desires of our own hearts" as we say in Morning Prayer? Were we following the sheep in front of us or beside us? Were we following our leaders, but only when it suited us? Was Christ in the mix? Who are we following now?
In crises past, present, and future, Christ Jesus was, is, and will be the Good Shepherd for his sheep. Jesus has the gate open for all of his sheep. He goes ahead of us to secure our path. He has promised that he is with us always and that he will never forsake us which is a great comfort for sheepish people in these uncertain times.
To reaffirm Psalm 23, the Lord is my Shepherd; he leads me, he restores me, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Will you join me and listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd as he calls us by name?
The Fourth Sunday of Easter
O God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd of your people: Grant that, when we hear his voice, we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Back to life...

So far - out of 36 pocket watches I bought a month ago on eBay, 25 have been brought back to life, 4 are junk, and I have 7 to go.  I seem to have a real knack for this... Above are two of the five I got running today.  Ingersolls with almost identical movements from 1925 and 1938 (can you spot the differences?).  91,101,60,0,B

dark and light...

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Hosea 14:9
Let those who are wise understand these things.
Let those with discernment listen carefully.
The paths of the Lord are true and right,
and righteous people live by walking in them.
But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

12 broken pocket watch movements.  After close examination, 4 are pretty much worthless, 5 are good for parts, and 3 show some promise of working again as is.  But I am going to have to tear them down / clean all the parts / and reassemble them.  My watchmaker toolkit arrives next week.  Anyone have an ultrasonic cleaner they would like to donate to TFL?  83,92,68,0,B

so pretty...

I see a lot of people asking for prayers to bless all the people of the earth during this pandemic.  The problem is - God does not answer the prayers on the behalf of those that have rejected Him.  For believers - you must ask for guidance in helping to lead those who deny Him.  Ask not for blessings, but for the ability to lead the unbelievers to Christ and to turn away from Satan before it is too late for them.  Isaiah 30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord:

Be a watchman...

Ezekiel 33:7 “Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me. If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to tell them to change their ways, then they will die in their sins, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will have saved yourself.

Tesla Watch

Definitely a novelty item but somewhat collectable now as they were only made for a few years.  They originally sold for 50 - 75 bucks and mint condition ones are going for 150 - 250 now.  Got this one off ebay for $40.  Cosmetically it is in great condition but it needs fresh batteries and a new switch lever for the lights.  Hoping to repair it and at least double my money.  60,67,51,0,B

clock cleaned

After getting the musical clock running by giving it a healthy dose of WD40, I removed all that with some brake cleaner from Autozone.  While it was running fine, I had to degrease all the surfaces and gears - otherwise dust would end up sticking to everything and gum up the works.  Applied just a dab of clock oil to all the shaft bearings and added a touch of grease to the barrel gears and it purring along again.  76,83,59,0,B

my stuff

A rehash of my hour a day cleaning method.  And no...I don't dwell very long over stuff that I "might" need someday.  1.  Identify immediate trash and throw it away.  2.  Identify stuff I want to keep.  3.  Identify stuff worth selling or giving away.  3.  If I can't sell it or give it quickly, it becomes trash.  In order to organize the stuff I want to keep, I am trying to store most of it in identical Sterilite 64 quart clear latching boxes (just ordered 12 more from Walmart).  Looks much better than piles of haphazard containers and boxes.  59,70,33,0,B
