John,

You probably already are aware of this, and I'm certainly not trying to sound a panic alarm. This is just a humble note of common sense precaution.

Borax is mostly very safe, but it does have some toxic properties.

Basically, you don't want to eat the stuff, not that I figure that was much of a danger, at least for the humans at the Fieldlab. Obviously, it may not be healthy to breathe the dust or breathe any fumes you may create heating it. Of course, that applies to a lot of things. Common Sense is called for.

However, you may want to think ahead and use common sense about how and where you dispose of any borax and whatever wastewater that might contain borax.

Carl and other critters of the bird persuasion would probably be the most vulnerable to harm if they happened to get ahold of some borax in their water, or mixed in with some feed or something by accident.

I repeat, borax is mostly safe. No need to panic.

This comment may be sharing seemingly obvious information, but sometimes a reminder is worthwhile to help keep your animals safe. Use common sense precautions and keep it away from your food and animals. One common sense example: You might want to be sure you are working downwind from Carl, and downwind from any feed for any of your critters.

Otherwise, have fun.

Not even a clue, but interested to find out. Did Mr. Cain bring the boys their new round bale?

I enlarged the picture, scanned the bar code on the red box. "Sorry, we don't have this product in our database yet." Made in China, dang...

The red box is a set of letter punches. I have one almost identical from Harbor Freight.

I believe the thing with a handle is used to pour molten lead.

A crucible, an alphanumeric die punch set and borax. Maybe to make some glass TFL anniversary thingamabobs.

Plan on minting some silver coins? I would love a TFL Shekel.
