Everybody loves water in the desert. I was pleasantly surprised during the edit to see that George made an appearance. I know him from all the other rabbits because of the tiny notch in his ear. A burro just happened to come by in time to be included. Ben went against the script and decided to just nudge the bucket. You can lead a steer to water but you can't make him drink. Great film. Beautiful music. I remember when Bonita had a drink.
The Bucket Lips. :-)
That was GOOD!
Male and female house finch. Best film to date. Very creative.
So very cool... I love this one... And I'm very happy to hear that the bees were rescued.
Big smile. . .
I look forward to your Friday Night Films and Monday Matinees as much as I used to look forward to listening to Prairie Home Companion.
The characters at TFL and your inventiveness with them is every bit as clever and entertaining.
How did you do that? So good. And of course the music was wonderful. What happy animals to have such clear good water. Is that the water you collect?
All GoPro cameras come with a waterproof housing. Just turned it on and put it in a bucket filled with some of my precious rainwater.
that was like a haiku for the eyes…
fine piece of 'film'! - you could have gone Hitchcockian & put in a cameo - maybe just a shadow and a straw…
liked how the bees seemed to share the frequency with the music - thought the music selection was excellent.
the suspense of seeing who might appear over the rim next was something… the possibilities grew rapidly
… and then there was the science of how creatures drink — George & the burro & Chupa & pal… like the twins in Kubrick's The Shining.
Ben was Jack Nicholson.
Al's bucket cameo
Al appears
Stanley
the twins - they just needed buckets
the twins - in many forms
on reflection, it was near perfect just the way you made it. hope there are rain water/pail sequels.
tweet it to Neistat… he has been spotlighting some other creators there… might send some eyeballs your way - nice contrast to his edits…
did you see his Amsterdam vlog… best he's done in a while - imo
if you haven't seen - also building his visual skills…
the "alternative plan" - a blast from the past… & Benita & methane, around 9 in - good to see the old girl… even in silhouette.
much sand has blown through the gate.

Well it's official! YOu are a genius! Really enjoyed this John, good job!
Liked It!
Sounds like it could be time to make room for Oscar on the cupboard!
Its been a while since I last stopped by the pages of TFL, but what a great sight to come back too!!!
Noticed the video while listening to music on Youtube, it already has over 11,000 views after less than 24 hours. Congrats. Great Video!!!! May I suggest you include the link for your blog in the YouTube descriptions whenever you post a video? Some people are going to discover you via YouTube and realizing you also have a wonderful, daily blog will be a plus for them.
Let's all vote for John to get an Oscar for BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM of 2017. I have never seen a more clever way of photographing animals getting a life sustaining water drink of water! From the bottom of the water bucket! Way to go John!
Slick!! But I'm not surprised. Great video, JW. And it was great to see you again last week. Keep it up!
Thumbs up!!!!
Great film, John! I really enjoyed it! How clever of you to think of doing that!
Adam Savage from Mythbusters liked the video & posted it on his FB page

Thanks for the link....!
Fabulous concept and ingenious execution.
Such happiness. Thanks so much for your wonderful imagination.
Fantastic work JW!
Thanks for rescuing the bees. Hard working little pollinators...
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! I would pay for a subscription to regular posts of this gorgeous and unprecedented view on life.
Who knew that donkey's "suck up" water when they drink.
I wonder if horses, or even alpacas do the same...?
Thank you for posting this as it's very interesting to see the different animals that will drink from a bucket in the desert. As a side note, I put shallow containers out for insects but I put stones in the containers and then top up with fresh water. The stones give the insects a chance to get out and not drown.
Found you from your bucket video going viral today all over Facebook...
.. looking for a FB page of yours to follow. .. ???
They werent swimming they were drowning. 😣 Use a shallow pan, add water, place marbles or rocks for safe landing spot
This was a great video. Enjoyed it very much.
Clever and charming-who who can resist that!?
Wonderful and amazing, so original. But I agree with Bunnymother above. The bees, which I see you rescued were drowning. Adding a landing spot - perhaps behind the camera - like a rock is needed for when you aren't there.
FYI - I always have some blocks of wood floating in the the bee water when I am not shooting an epic video of bees doing the backstroke.
Have been on the road in our Ultra Van and didn't get a chance to see the bucket until tonight. Great John!
Love the music, but the chickens creep me out. xD
I am a filmmaker and work in the Beijing Film Academy in china...Your film is one of the most beautiful and touching shorts
I have EVER seen...I have watched i too many times...It actually brings tears of laughter when your cow comes along with the muddy old nose...wonderful....it is really, really a touching moment. and we call this GOLD !!!
PS....just want to add...NO. NO. NO, I do not agree about the bees...this is how nature is..why modify ? Drowning...not drowning? That is not the point, I do not think, of this endearing work...
Some of our students in China have put cameras down in the ocean, we see all sorts of natural things. Sea Turtles dancing together, fish being eaten by other fish...debris floating by....
Tis how it is in nature....
Is it possible to get a downloadable version of the film? I'd love to use this for a children's sermon (we average 150 in worship, so I would just be showing on an ipad, not on a big screen), but we don't have wireless in the sanctuary-
Thank you! This has been much-needed sustenance this week-

So cool. May I ask... do you leave water for them all the time?
APStraight...just do a Google search for "downloading a video from YouTube". There are plenty of free /easy options.
Thanks! I'll do that. I know that there are work-arounds, but I didn't want to pursue that option without your permission.
Thank you!
I'm reminded ...
"... whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things."

I was delighted and very happy with your video. Do others like this. Thank you for sharing
You may already know, but The Weather Channel is showing The Bucket (or parts of it) in a highly edited version with different music, in their Crazimals section.
Felt just plain wrong to see/hear it like that after watching your wonderful original.
Добрый человек, замечательная идея , чудесный фильм... Актеры и режиссер тянут на Оскара!
I came to your blog from YouTube "the Bucket" to see if the bees were rescued. Thank you! :)
