Blue Moon

Since I have developed a great distaste for over-hyped celestial events, I felt that this was the best way to commemorate tonight's blue moon.  93,99,71,0,B

show me the honey...

Bartered a TFL paramotor pilot coin for a quart of harvested honey from pro pilot Eddie Carter in Yoakum, TX.  Showed it to my wild bees to make them feel guilty and perhaps lead me to their hive.  Eddie has become a well known member of the PPG community since he took up the sport 4 years ago.  Hopefully he will come out to fly TFL once I heal up and get back in the sky.  Here is his 2011 year in review when he first got started in the sport.  91,98,71,0,B

the ball is in your court...

2 Chronicles 15:2 The Lord is with you when you are with Him. If you look for Him, He will let you find Him. But if you leave Him, He will leave you.
Psalms 37:4 Be happy in the Lord. And He will give you the desires of your heart.

nothing is easy

Fought with PayPal half the day trying to figure out the shipping label thing.  Apparently making my life easier has its' costs.  Problem is...the package size I have is not an option for printing postage and my only other option is hand addressing them and getting postage at the post office.  The plus side is it makes it all easier to print the labels including a tracking number being automatically emailed to the recipient - the down side is it costs a little more to send each package.  Went ahead and printed labels for the first two orders I received (David Brown and Thomas Hill) and will take them to the post office tomorrow to have a pow wow with postmaster Lisa.  The rest of the orders will start shipping Monday...even if I have to resort to the old fashioned way.  96,101,73,0,C

Thank you for contributing to the Ben'n'Bud Fund.  Just over half of the inventory of 100 coins sold overnight.  When these are gone, I will stamp a limited edition of the 2013 coin for those who might have missed out on the original.  92,98,71,0,B

it's all in the timing...

Pepino's pump timer circuit is acting up again.  Time to get a couple of replacements to have on hand.  Ordered two with shorter cyclical timing (5min vs 60min) which will make it easier to dial in the "on" and "off" times.  93,99,74, .12",B

the extra mile

Had a long meeting recently with the quality control department here at TFL.  It was decided that each coin that leaves the premises must have a protective coating.  After researching several possibilities, it was decided that Renaissance wax was the way to go.  How can you go wrong with a product approved by the Queen of England? 96,101,75,0,B

first sale

Frequent visitor and Field Lab friend Bill Vogl stopped by today along with his daughter Kaylee.  They are doing the father/daughter thing before Kaylee goes off to Texas A&M in the fall.  They hiked the south rim in BBNP a couple of days ago.  13.5 miles over 7.5 hours with a 2000 foot elevation gain to 7100 ft.  Bill graciously purchased (including a little extra) the very first coin to go out the door to benefit the Ben'n'Bud Fund.  He didn't have cash on him so he Paypaled me from his smart phone through my wifi.  technology...  96,101,73,0,B

a tricky question

If you read the question carefully - you noticed I did not ask how long the pump ran but rather, how many hours the swamp cooler was turned on per day.  If the pump turns on and off 6300 times per 30 day month then it turns on and off 210 times per day ( 6300 ÷ 30 = 210).  It's of no matter how long the pump is on, what is key is that it turns on and off every 4 minutes - or 15 times per hour (60 ÷ 4 = 15).  If the pump cycles 15 times per hour and 210 times per day, then the correct answer is 14 hours (210 ÷ 15 = 14).  96,102,72,0,B

pump out

Pepino's pump pooped out.  Just happened to have a replacement on hand.  Only got one year out of the last pump.  It is set to cycle 9 seconds every 4 minutes...which is about 6300 times per month.  The new AC is really taking the edge off.  I run it from 3 - 6PM and it chills the hut down to 74°.  Math quiz:  How many hours a day is Pepino turned on?  95,100,71,0,B

Trading righteousness for sin...

Evangelical Christians are now called upon to think strategically about what it means to speak truthfully and lovingly to a society that increasingly sees us as the moral outlaws. Clearly, we must watch our speech carefully, measuring every word for truth and tone and avoiding incendiary sound bites. We must also guard our hearts toward the persistent temptation towards self-righteousness. But, at the same time, even the most humble statement of biblical truth can now be turned into a sound bite described as hate speech and a refusal to affirm the normalization of sin is turned into repulsive intolerance.  We now face no shortage of arguments for capitulation, but abandoning the truth of God’s Word is not an option. We deny the gospel if we deny the sinfulness of sin. Every sin. Our sin.

coin delay

Slight delay in the for sale one was on duty in the shipping department the last few days.  Hope to get back on schedule next week.  Wasn't gonna buy any more silver till I started getting what I had out the door, but I had a buy alert set up for a drop below $15/oz.  Snatched up another 30oz last week for the next round.

haole visit over

Steve Hills left TFL today.  We were neighbors when I lived in upstate NY.  He did the architectural plans for the rebuild of my house while he was an architectural student...saving me a bundle of money.  He also worked with me as a carpenter on the rebuild and on a big barn renovation.  He and his wife moved to Hawaii 6 years ago but are heading back to NY with 2 little girls in tow.  Steve bought this bus about 10 years ago and shipped it over to the island.  Took him 4 years to rebuild the engine in his spare time (and probably another 4 to finish the body and interior).  The wife and kids flew back east a couple of weeks ago while Steve closed up shop on the island.  Cost him $1700 to ship the gherkin back to the mainland (Seattle) and he is slowly making his way back home to the land of snow, rock salt, and rust.  82,95,73,0,B

NOTE:  This is the last time I smoked pot.  He brought some from Colorado and couldn't take what was left of it back through the border patrol checkpoint - so he left about an 1/8 oz here.  I smoked a little of it then traded the rest for a frozen pizza.

this boot is made for walkin'...

Just finished the latest round trip to Odessa.  My doc was finally satisfied enough with my bone mending to give me the green light on light (30%) weight bearing for the next 5 weeks.  My fibula is completely healed but the big ol' tibia still has a ways to go.

FYI - that first frankenboot they gave me cost my insurance company $250 and me $100...and I hated it because it was very uncomfortable and heavy.  I bought this one from Amazon Prime for 80 bucks and my doctor and I both approve.  87,99,73,0,C
