Put in a good days work and was done by noon. Poured (4 loads in Walter) the south entrance, showered and clocked out by 11:30AM. Just as well cause it was too hot the rest of the day. Had a brief visit this afternoon from John Soper - he caught the piece on KWES 9 in Midland yesterday and just had to come out to see the spread. Nice guy and he showed me some geometry/astronomy tricks to figure out the latitude and magnetic declination of the Field Lab. Who can't use a good geometry trick....Also worked another loaf of solar bread into the schedule but that was about it.

Beat the Heat

John, I miss seeing the high and low temperatures in your posts. Had not had a chance to read your blog in a couple of days but hoped you had gotten some of the rain we had been getting lately so I could see a picture of your dam.
Great work as usual, I am glad you were able to take half a day off.
I've never been out your way in the summer, only autumn and winter, so I am curious as to how uncomfortable it is in the summer heat. I'm real sensitive to humidity, so I know that when someone sais "It's a dry heat", it really means something. The summer heat without all the humidity like we have in Dallas must be a blessing. Swamp coolers work best in low humidity. Do you use yours much? Another good looking pour. Can't wait to see those walls going up.

It only rained once since Oct of last year - about six weeks ago and just under an inch. We've been crossing the 100 degree mark just about every day for a week now...a nice low of 53 this morning. High daytime temps are only a killer if there is no breeze. Have yet to put my swamp cooler back into service but its coming soon. Day time humidity levels are usually about 10% but it goes up to about 45% with the cooler morning temps which is a nice combo to start the day. Will keep you posted on my declination once I set up the little experiment to do the calculation.
