Big Bend Gazette

Beautiful low of 54 this morning....stifling hot 105 today. I knew the upper end of this range was coming so early this morning I stripped the forms off the south entrance pour and gave the fresh concrete a nice watering. Decided an air conditioned ride in the truck to Alpine would help fill the day.

Stopped by to visit my friend Suzy at her antique store to drop off the loaf of solar bread I baked yesterday. She used to work at the Antelope Lodge and was one of the first super friendly folks I met when I arrived in the area...we have been good friends ever since. To top it off - she was the one who gave me the windows that I used to build the solar oven and my solar hot water so I figured it was time to give her a sample from the oven. Experienced a nice/weird coincidence while I was chatting with her...a friend of hers stopped by with the new issue of the Big Bend Gazette. http://www.bigbendgazette.com/PDFs/BigBendGazette.pdf

Made the rounds to my favorite supply stops and popped in on Bennett to kill more time before heading back to the toasty Field Lab. His wife has started prepping their garden area and has a few plants growing.

On the way out of town I caught a glimpse of this bizarre motor home and had to drive around the block to get a picture of it. If I ever decide to become a rock star - I will have to tour in one of these....

Man, you're getting a lot of press coverage. Great picture of the solar oven in the "Big Bend Gazette". Eagerly awaiting next dispatch...

Well what do you know...The Highway Man. Good to know it was just a movie prop with a new paint job instead of a production model for rich dumbasses. Thanks for the links including that video - Dukes of Hazzard meets Mad Max...no wonder the series never made it. Good call on the Colani lookalike. Only the Kahuna could recognize a link to an obscure designer.
