low tech...

No big secret behind the payphone lighting....just 4 strings of 50 white LED Christmas lights.  They have internal sensors that shut them off for charging during the day and turn them on from dusk till dawn.  Had a couple of bum lights in the strings but it's good enough for me.  Will mount the little solar chargers and batteries on top now that I know they work within reason.

Just got word via Facebook today that my friend and neighbor Voni Glaves (wearing red, of course) and Ardys Kellerman became the first women in North America to document riding one million miles on BMW motorcycles.  Congratulations!...Next stop - 2 million miles.  96,104,84,0,B

Fool that I was,I thought Terlingua was laid back . . . not thinking Shelby until now.

You guys make retirement almost look like work except for your obvious enjoyment of life!

Medical research may be required to research a pod of incredible go-getters . . . Rock on!

Wowee! My friend Galen Perry lives on the Tippecanoe River north of Battleground IN and he has spent his whole life (he's 63)working on "/2 Beemers" and he would love to meet these gals!
He says they're the BEST scooters ever made!

Yay for these women! I'll be riding the Million Dollar Highway next month with a girl friend of mine. Two of us (women) are riding from San Antonio to Durango and doing this ride.

Thanks for posting...these ladies are awesome!

Excellent refinements to the pay phone lighting. It'll be a cool landmark in a harsh environment, a beacon in the night to the lonely traveler.

Hat's off to these fine ladies, their bikes, and their wonderful accomplishment. BMWs are simply the best. John, next time you're in Alpine, you should check out our friend Chris King. He is the BMW Guru. He has a shop over on the west side of town, where he turns old (and new) BMWs into awesome desert rat monsters. A few years ago, our friend the singer and songwriter Joe Pat Hennen, wrote a cool song about him called "Mean Motor Scooter", which could probably be found on YouTube.

As always, good luck with all you do, and thanks for keeping us informed.
