the right to choose

Society today is all about the right to choose, and the reliance on government to protect that right and protect us from things that the media leads us to believe are no longer our own responsibility to control .   Who is in control?  My life here is all about taking control of my own future and taking personal responsibility for all my needs.  Our freedom to take control and responsibility for our own lives is rapidly being taken away from us.  Far too many have chosen to pray upon government to support and protect their lives - as long as they still have the illusion of choice.  The masses think they will still be free to choose their options as they slowly give away any chance of freedom by relying more and more on government to protect their perceived options.  From what I have seen in the world and my own life, trust in God and faith in the Word of the Bible is not an option to be protected by government....it is the ONLY option.

Isaiah 40
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.  4 Every valley shall be exalted , and every mountain and hill shall be made low : and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:  5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed , and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

Isaiah 41
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed ; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.  11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded : they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish . 12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.  13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

- Jesus was His representative on earth.
- They spoke to each other quite often, right?
- So why didn't They ever weigh in on gun control?

Daniel...I think I covered that in the post.

I don't see it John. Where in the Bible does it mention or acknowledge semi-automatic weapons? Seriously, how do you square it with yourself? God created the earth we live on yes? You don't believe in evolution do you? If he made us all from time immemorial, then shouldn't He be able to see the future. I mean Jesus-- couldn't he throw some wisdom about guns to us His flock?

Well said my friend.........God is in control, I am proud to say I am one of His children, I have placed my faith in His Grace through His Son I am free to worship Him.
Thanks John Wells you preach a good Word.

Hey John, not everyone has the means to go and move to the desert. What do you say to the person that has demonstrated 100 times more faith throughout their life than you but does not have the financial means like yourself to get up and move their family down to Texas? Tough luck Charlie. That's what you say right? Does Jesus mention anything about Social Darwinism in the Bible? Remind me what he says about the least among us? Is that who you mean when their are certain Americans who "pray" upon the government? You go to church on Sunday again after a long absence and you think that you know it all? Am I American enough for you John? Am I going to Heaven or Hell John? Please tell me! With respect, go buy another camera.

God gave us free will to make choices in our life, it was never his intent for us to be a bunch of robotic supplicants. It's all just a test, read the Book of Job and see what he went through.

Just a thought a gun in the right hand and a bible in the left!

It be really interesting to know how those kids had any way they could control what happened to them.

They were just six year olds.

Pretty cowardly not mentioning the second amendment outright.

Jesus said...

So would you consider a person who is mentally unstable and enters an elementary school with the intent of blowing little children's heads apart like a cantaloupe, you would consider him having all of his faculties? Would you consider him truly acting under his own freewill? Truly? An God is responsible for creating that boy the way he is? For that matter Bob, how do you explain when children are born without arms or legs. They're pretty much unable to move let alone make a choice. Is God testing that child? Doesn't add up to me.

Daniel God could not or would not control the angels he created before the earth was formed. Do you really think he can influence, control or direct each and every action of over 7 billion humans. The Old Testament clearly shows his power and limitations.

Jesus said...

Then why do so many people thank Him in good times? When Tim Tebow throws a TD pass, it is God's will but when someone kills innocents, it is free will. Cool and convenient.

Dale said...

I give no thanks for the good times nor do I lay blame for the bad times. You know if you believe in God and angles then you have to also believe in devils and demons. Here is a PDF of Zecharia Sitchin's "The Lost Book of Enki" very interesting read http://www.mycuriousbrain.com/wp-content/uploads/files/LBoE.pdf

"Who is in control? My life here is all about taking control ... "

I'm sorry to hear that you refuse to surrender control to God.

The government isn't taking control of your life. You are allowing other MEN to take control of your life when they feed you distorted interpretations of scripture for their own earthly political purposes.

Sadly, far too many Christians fall into this evil trap.

Put your trust in God, not in Men feeding you distorted political dogma disguised as scripture.

Love God.
Treat others as you wish to be treated.

If someone does you wrong, turn the other cheek.
Then go find someone you can help.

It's important to read what the scriptures REALLY say, not what some selfish guy wants you to think they say to advance his own political agenda.

A Christian's reward is not of this earth. A true Christian seeks a reward far greater than a piece of land, greater than any amount of money, greater than any political agenda, greater than Man who has the ability to distort scripture.

Seek your heavenly reward, not an earthly one.

Matthew 25
35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Who was thirsty that you gave drink?
Who was hungry that you gave food?
Who was naked and you clothed?
Who was sick or in prison and you came to them?

The bible spells out the path to the greatest reward very clearly. Sadly far too many men distort what it says to change the meaning to fit their own political agenda.

Who are you putting your trust in? God? Or some man feeding you distorted scriptures?

Am I misinterpreting the timing of John's post then Slacker? Just a coincidence that on the day that Senator Feinstein announced that she will reintroduce the Assault Weapons Ban at the beginning of the next session of Congress, John starts to go into his "fear the guvment" routine? Hey John, tell all your readers that your post had nothing to do with the big bad government coming to get your guns. I'd like to know John what scares you so much about the government? What specifically has the government done to you that causes you to be so scared? Why are you so scared John? Scared of Liberal NYC? Move. Scared of bumps in the desert night? Buy many guns. Scared of dying? (you're not a youngster anymore John) Find religion. Don't be scared John.

What are you SCARED of Daniel is this your therapy to vent your childhood frustrations on anyone that might give you the time of day. Find some real counseling. Don't be scared Daniel

I respect John but he puts his thoughts out there for the world to interpret and i believe I have the right to want to ask him some questions. Sweeping generalizations are cute. Doesn't anybody else wonder where John got all his money? Set building was pretty lucrative I guess. Lottery winner? Inheritance? We don't know. We know that he is a hard worker but opinionated when it comes to those that have it harder than him. Some people are true victims, and believe it or not, work even harder than John. Who have sacrificed more in their lifetime than John. John is a big boy and can speak for himself Idaho. What does the bible say about compassion John? Not everyone are leeches or moochers. Can you really tell all of us John that you or no one you love have ever received government assistance? When you turn 67 you will refuse to collect your SS right? Does the bible mention anything about being hypocritical?

Jay said...

"Does the bible mention anything about being hypocritical?"

Yes the bible does. Depending upon which translation you prefer, from 18 times to over 30 times (+/-).

Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Matthew 6:2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Matthew 6:5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Matthew 7:5 "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

I'm gone. Nothing excuses the obscene gun-loving stupidity of "more guns will make us safer". In the US you have 1200 times more gun murders than most modern western nations. Assault rifles are needed by civilians in a democratic and peaceful nation, why?

Using religion and some kind of bizzare twisted paranoid interpretation of rights is beyond belief - yours or mine...

I've loved to follow your adventure, ingenuity, sense of community and respect for the environment. But I'll forgo this because I can't stomach the endorsement of bloody and demented embrace of unnecessary guns.

Enjoy your continuing adventure, water your fruit and vegies, and look after the critters.

What is wrong with you people? I do not know John, have never been to TFL, doubt that I could do what he does. What I do know, from following his posts these last several years, is that he has never shown malice towards another living thing, ever. He has what he has, and he keeps what he has because he pays for it and he works for it. This should be celebrated, not envied. Whether he has tons of money or no money and where it came from should be of no concern to anyone else. If he has guns, he only has them for defensive purposes, not offensive purposes, and he has every right to that. He has opinions, and publishes them on occasion, but never attacks anyone else. Obviously, he provides a forum for discussion, agreement, disagreement, whatever, but why atttack him for his belief system? As far as control goes, if you believe in "free will" and "God helps those who help themselves", then John is right on that path, and again, this should be celebrated, not envied. He does not ask anyone to follow his path, but he is generous enough to allow others of us to have a fun peek at an alternative, peaceful lifestyle. And for that, I say " Thank you, John".

Thank you Oracle, i've sat here for a day wondering how to comment on this Sunday blog and you have just put it all together perfectly. I also enjoy John's blogs and just do not understand from where some of these vicious attacking comments are coming.

Idaho Hillbilly Homestead said...

Well said Oracle.I to have been following John's Blog for awhile and He is One of my Hero's.The Blog has changed some lately but we all change. And Daniel Not that it is any of our business but if you go back when John started this blog he also talks about selling his farm.So maybe he did well when he sold out and moved to Texas.

Unknown said...

I agree Oracle and Rita. Everyone has the right to choose. God gives us all free will. With that in mind I don't understand the nature of these attacks. If you choose not to agree with John or find his point of view goes completely against what you believe, the answer is simple. Don't come to his blog.

What people are hoping to accomplish by these long winded rants, I have not a clue. Do they honestly think they are going to sway an opinion or belief with an attack?

So much for live and let live. It seems some people will not feel accomplished until everyone thinks and believes as they do. LOl on that.

Jesus said...

I completely agree that there is no reason for these "teabagger-style" attacks by John on the "takers" in this country. Thanks Lobata-- not really the words that Jesus would have spoken. This blog is no longer about a man's experiment in sustainable living but rather the rants of a scared man. Don't be scared John.

One last comment. People who are well prepared, self sufficient and smart are seldom scared. John appears to be all of these things. Repeating a childish taunt somehow reminds me of Cartman on South Park, who is always scared.

Neil said...

If one wants to rant and rave and find fault, may be he should start his own blog. I for one respect John and his point of view, even if it is different than my own. It is my choice to peek into his life and in doing so I need to respect him and his choices. After all he didn't invite me to follow his life.

Dale said...

The moral of the story is that the only one you can truly rely on is the person you see in the mirror. Go out and sit on a nice rock and pray to God or government to take care of your needs and tell me how that works out for you.

Jesus said...

Another point of view is healthy. I already said that i respect John and all of the accomplishments he's made at the Lab. Some day I hope to do something similar-- he's inspired me. He deserves all the praise from the thousands of people who have written him regarding his vision for his way of life and the way he respects nature and Her creatures. However when he espouses his Teabag banter, he shouldn't be surprised to get some push back. John has the right to say anything he wants and many of you who agree or disagree can get upset and worry about poor John's feelings. The only person to politicize this blog was John Wells himself. BTW- Obama is a Kenyan right John.
