renovation finished

Adding the file cabinets inside the hut worked really well.  Now it almost seems like I have a bedroom instead of feeling like I am sleeping in my living space.  No doubt in a year or two, I will be doing a blog post about cleaning out the drawers once they have been filled with useless stuff.  70,84,52,0,W

Nice ambiance. You did a fine job.

looks very homey but Martha Stewart would frown on the file cabinets!

is there space under the countertop or is that area now not accessible?

if the countertop itself was hinged or had left/right (on top) sliding panels - the space below would be more accessible and useable... use every inch of space!

That's a good idea Larry. The other day I wondered who might share that bed with you (that's my younger thinking) but today I thought that's a nice bachelor pad. Amazing how our attitudes can change from time to time.

Margery - was not talking about the width of the bed... but rather the countertop at the foot of it.

if that countertop was on a hinge and could lift up - you could use the space below it.

or if the hinge idea does not appeal then put in sliders and let the countertop be a couple of separate pieces that can slide left and right to get to the area below.

by no means would I recommend that John limit what he could do with his Bed!

but when you have tight quarters - you want to maximize your use of space - like they do on Airstreams!

Most of us live in way too big homes to start with and I've always liked the more compact and ingenious uses of space.

File cabinets ? Scan it, put it on discs.
Went from 20 years of paperwork in same cabinets to small box with slim jewel cases...I was like why didn't I do this years ago ? Could probably put it all on a SSD drive about the size of 3 in. CD ,when the prices come down.
