When will it be time to panic?

I have to say that I have very little confidence in the motives and abilities of our government.
Not to worry, they say...
Leaders of the country’s health, defense and military branches stressed that they are taking the right steps to contain the spread of the deadly virus, which was first diagnosed in the U.S. on Tuesday.  “We know how to do this, and we will do it again,” Lisa Monaco, assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, said at a press briefing.  “It’s very important to remind the American people that U.S. has the most capable healthcare system and the most capable doctors in the world, bar none,”  78,89,62,0,B

Our health care system was ranked 38th last time I checked. Our government is just rank amateurs.
So I am guessing Ebola makes a tour of the South.

Our system ranked 44 on this listing (dated last month) but it is #1 in cost.

The US ranks first in infant mortality (first year deaths) in all the industrialized nations. Our primary health care system sucks. Public health was abandoned long ago for drugs. The only thing that works, sometimes, is supportive care should one get really sick - provided the physician recognizes and properly treats. I have zero faith in the US health care system.

Fortunately Ebolavirus is difficult to contract. It does not survive in free air and is not spread through coughing like a rhinovrus. It is transmitted from a sick individual through contact with body fluid, primarily blood.

This scare is the same nonsense as was trumped up before. See swine flu, bird flu, influenza, ect.

Cool heads should prevail and use my prime maxim "I don't believe anything this government tells us". If you begin there, sanity will settle in nicely.

While the US bombs syria, distraction is the order of the day.

This is the most do nothing congress in the history of our country! This is our problem

Need to be prepared. Being prepared for an extended lockdown (no one goes in-no one goes out) is about all we can do. Get protective gear while you can. Awareness of your surroundings is a must. Wish we lived in an isolated location as TFL.

well.. it's true - government sucks sometimes.. but it sure beats the dooda out of what is in second place!

Govt is us. The folks in Congress - we put them there.. right?

and how many will get voted out for not doing their jobs?

how about the district you live in?

we always hear how bad Congress is except for the guy in YOUR district who we think is just fine, eh?

Congress has no clue how to deal with this but they'd cut funds to the CDC to show they are "no-tax" guys, right?

or.. for the libertarian types, we don't need no stinkin CDC, we just let the private sector handle it, eh?

cry me a river when I hear folks complaining about govt.. sure it sucks sometimes but think about this country not having a CDC - as flawed as it is - and instead having what those African nations have for their version of CDC.

well.. I have a prediction -

I predict that you WILL NOT see a bunch of phony hypocrites up in Congress say they are going to "de-fund" the CDC because it's an expensive, bureaucratic failure!

or perhaps they'll convene a hearing and accuse the CDC of being nasty to conservatives, eh?

;-)

so you have folks like Eric Owens, and papers like the Daily Caller and the Washington times supporting MORE coercive government .. when it suits them of course....

It was the Bush Administration that proposed MORE coercive govt... and it was Obama that refused to make govt more coercive... like taking people into custody because some govt weenie though they might be infected with something?

you guys have trouble keeping your stories straight sometimes, in your neverending hate campaigns against this POTUS.

Rev.jimmyleebob said...

not only that but I've been out there driving all over YOUR roads...

Larry G said...

and you're arguing for MORE govt and more power for a POTUS you claim abuses his power!

and no - they're not MY roads - they are YOUR roads and you have them because govt took land away from others to build them... and you know..it was done long before Obama showed up, too!

I cannot understand your views towards govt.

one day you're all opposed.. and the next day you're all in favor ...

do you have a consistent position?

is the CDC a coercive govt agency that you want to give even more coercive power to - regardless of what POTUS you hate?

Can not be worrying about that Ebola virus. Got to get ready for the upcoming Blue Quail Hunting season. I doubt if any West Africans (nor most Americans) even know where the Terlingua Ranch is located. Great that my chosen hunting location - is one of the most remote locations in North America!

now don't you be trying to ruin a perfectly good conspiracy theory!

It's no time to panic. There's always lots of unfounded fear & loathing from those on the right....Stay calm, follow your instincts, and don't buy into the hype.

Steve, if you're trying to fill a bucket with water, and the bucket has a hole the size of a dime in the bottom of it, you might get it full for a second or two, but then it'll all drain out and you'll have to start over again.

A tale of two crises. It's funny how conservatives jeer at global warming science, but wet themselves over global pandemic science. Similar, I suppose to the plaint that we're bankrupting our children over the national debt, but not over disappearing clean air, water, wildlife, etc. Wake up!

rondeb said...

I jeer those things that are not real (ie, man made global warming) I do not jeer those things that are real (ie, Ebola - It is on our shores and it kills) I get prepared
