Maybe think ahead a little and grow some medical marijuana in preparation for your next injury.

legal in Texas? bad idea if not - they can seize your assets... if not legal.

I don't know - is it legal in Texas?

Margery Billd said...

Not legal here in Texas-talking about probation, car monitor, jail time, record.

Margery Billd said...

Some doctors in the U.S. want to make it legal in some places.

Larry G said...

keep in mind - the Feds still don't think it's legal...

I know Willie gets away with it... but he's got a legal team

I remember in the 60's when a man in Dallas got caught with a joint and served ten (10) years jail time. I was in college in the U.P. MI and not a smoker. We were schocked. In MI a person at AnnArbor got a ten dollar fine.

In AK in the 80's a person could grow, sell, and smoke M.J. anywhere (could not drink beer on the street though). Now it is illegal.

You could always rent a new car and make a (probably much needed) field trip to Colorado where they sell it retail.

I do not believe very many of us would benefit from a: ------------------------------- "much needed field trip to Colorado where they sell it retail."--------------------- ------------------------------------You certainly better not smoke any of that stuff on your long drive back to Texas. Recreational Marijuana is still illegal in most states.

So interesting how we went from kale, chard and mesclun to "The Weed". There are many beneficial, nutritious plants and herbs. It seems the two most important considerations are location and preparation. What does the plant like and what would be good companion planting.

John's place would probably be perfect for growing white ceremonial sage -- it kills desert molds and fungi and I think it is pretty. Can he grow lots of aloe vera and maybe other beneficial plants? What do they grow in Mexico? Maybe he can grow chia seeds or cilantro. Hippocrates said, "Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food." Maybe nutritionally dense is a good idea, i.e. high Brix or sugars. I'm still learning . . .

I have absolutely no interest in growing pot in my greenhouse. Having gone through a phase of smoking it in my youth, all I can say for it is it lowers your ability to make reasonable judgments and gives you a false sense of euphoria. No matter what you have read on the internet, the medical value of marijuana lacks long term clinical analysis. Too many people who have "a prescription" for medicinal marijuana are interested in one thing and only one thing - getting high. Getting "high on life" is a little more difficult but far more rewarding.

Will be interesting to see how the Earthboxes work out. Went to the web site and looked into them. I'd think you could do well with those all winter in Terlingua if you get adequate sun in the green house.

Well said John!

Two good paragliders went slowly directly at low level over my house and yard for the second time I know about yesterday around 6p.m. Looked good and fun. My giant male Weimarainer from a ranch by Laredo was again very interested. I think those packs etc. are a little heavy for me. They might have launched from the lodge and boat ramp in my area.

Lol I wouldn't grow weed either with a checkpoint between me and the rest of the world.

Sorry to fire up the crowd with kidding John about the weed thing. Despite what folks are told to believe, outside of the recreational uses, there is ample clinical data to show clinical benefit it many therapeutic areas. It's not the THC (the intoxicant component) that is showing great promise medically. And yes, it does have some analgesic properties without the common issues associated with the schedule III narcotics/analgesics. It's also shown incredible results with kids prone to seizures, and one grower in Colorado has developed a strain with the THC virtually removed so that it could be used on a couple salvage pts. ( little kids ) who have gone from having several hundred seizures per day, to only 1 or 2 seizures per week. No other class of drugs has been able to show results like that. And the current standard of care drugs for seizures have horrendous side effects. So before we throw the baby out with the bathwater, don't assume because hippies smoke it, it's bad.

Problem is that our fearless Congress is so scared to free up funding to the NIH to fund research in marijuana that all the academic labs are afraid to touch it for fear of losing existing grants. What is actually happening is that the research is taking place overseas now since they aren't saddled with the 19th century laws we currently have to contend with. Once again, we had opportunity for important scientific research, but our Puritan roots have gotten in the way of scientific advancement. There are already several drugs available for glaucoma patients and cancer patients that are synthetic versions of some of the components. In the next 5 years hopefully the larger medical community will see past Congress and demand that testing be brought into the academic labs. Right now between the trepidation of congress to fund research, and the draconian laws regulating the drug, we'll have to leave the research to our overseas scientific community. Of course, their companies will be the ones to profit from any advances. But that shouldn't surprise anyone, now should it?

And no, I don't use that stuff. I'm practically overdosing on life already.

American Epilepsy Society, November 7, 2014: "The recent anecdotal reports of positive effects of the marijuana derivative cannabidiol for some individuals with treatment-resistant epilepsy give reason for hope. However, we must remember that these are only anecdotal reports, and robust scientific evidence for the use of marijuana is lacking. The lack of information does not mean that marijuana is ineffective for epilepsy. It merely means that we do not know if marijuana is a safe and effective treatment for epilepsy, which is why it should be studied using the well-founded research methods that all other effective treatments for epilepsy have undergone. Such safety concerns coupled with a lack of evidence of efficacy in controlled studies result in a risk/benefit ratio that does not support use of marijuana for treatment of seizures at this time. Healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers are reminded that use of marijuana for epilepsy may not be advisable due to this lack of information on safety and efficacy."

That is a predictable response from the AES given the current lack of placebo controlled double blind studies. But, just because they cite anecdotal evidence does not negate efficacy. AES would be remiss to say anything otherwise.

Once again, until people and institutions are less scared of how they would "look," there will be little progress in the US. Many scientific institutions still consider the marijuana question a third rail.

Here's a perfect example which parallels what I was trying to say about the lack of acceptance of marijuana, and initial reluctance to engage in research.

It's far easier to take the easy path and just say it can't or shouldn't be done. I think the Wright Brothers might have an opinion on that. Less than 100 years after they were told they were crazy, and that powered flight was an impossibility, we had humans walking on the surface of the moon. I guess you have to decide what your motivation is. Is it fear or curiosity that gets you out of bed in the morning.

Sometimes people just need to tune out the naysayers and trust their own instincts and intellect. As an addendum to the above --everybody said this couldn't be done. That it would never work. That it's too dangerous. Yet today, it is used extensively to treat a wide number of conditions and has saved millions of lives.

Good to see back in business! Many Native American Tribes (even mine) were hunter/gathers and by each passing day I see the wildlife coming closer to my home because in Houston everything is moving South. Large 3 story homes that are like apartments, very large, new houses but to but.
I feel sad and that is why I stop hunting and trapping, gathering berry's/roots etc.

Still same ole man Swmapman

I am so excited share my story, maybe someone will find it useful is about how to fix your relationship and marriage form divorce or Breakup..! A very big problem occurred in my Marriage seven months ago, between me and my husband .so terrible that he took the case to court for a divorce. he said that he never wanted to stay with me again, and that he didn't love me anymore. So he packed out of the house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get him back, after much begging, but all to no avail.and he confirmed it that he has made his decision, and he never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my husband .So i explained every thing to him,so he told me that the only way i can get my husband back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for him too.So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow his advice. Then he gave me the email address of the spell caster whom he visited. TEMPLEOFLOVEANDPROSPERITY@GMAIL.COM. So the next morning,i sent a mail to the address he gave to me,and the spell caster assured me that i will get my husband back the next day. What an amazing statement!! I never believed,so he spoke with me, and told me everything that i need to do. Then the next morning, So surprisingly, my husband who didn't call me for the past 7 months, gave me a call to inform me that he was coming back. So Amazing!! So that was how he came back that same day, with lots of love and joy,and he apologized for his mistake, and for the pain he caused me and my children. Then from that day,our relationship was now stronger than how it were before,by the help of a spell caster. So, i will advice you out there if you have any problem contact Dr Frank Ojo, i give you 100% guarantee that he will help you.. Email him at: Templeofloveandprosperity@gmail.com .
