Mounting four 100 watt solar panels to a couple of 2x6 steel purlins. Wanted to get these together so I could tie them into my system for a test. Looks like I will need another 400 watts of solar to keep up with my air conditioner so I will decide on a permanent mount once I get the additional panels. Just curious, these panels I've found to be the best deal, the first few times I researched and bought some. They cost me about $120 to ship to east central Illinois, recently I checked, now the shipping is a little less than $100, I'm wondering if you have found a less expensive source? P.S. Chupa has about the most charisma I think I've ever seen in a rooster.

Oops, failed to mention the panels I referred to earlier, DM Solar http://www.dmsolar.com/dm15somo2pkp.html .

Today something drew me to the Schertz- Cibilo Animal Shelter in Universal City. There was a reason? You think your Burro looked bad? There was a male Weimaraner at the shelter-so smart, strong, and gentle. I went out and said he looked so emaciated - starved, much worse than your Burro. The head girl called me in her office. She showed me pictures of him when they picked him up wandering and took him to the vet. He was bones with some skin stretched over the bones and ribs and a bone was at least 5 inches sticking out under his tail. I was so shocked. He is doing so well now. He was with a female and she was adopted already. She was full blooded. He has a small amount of Doberman she said. He is 12 and vibrant and beautiful. She said she will keep him in the office if someone suitable does not come along. She said one couple was interested. I told her not to put him down but to call the Weimaraner Association.

Some years ago I was on a country road and there was a Weimaraner there. I knew it from the vet and it was 18 years old. So it followed me up the hill to its big house and disappeared down the driveway. I was so impressed with this dog. It is very difficult if not impossible to get a Weimaraner around here. I got my second (and male) Weim. from Laredo - a big baby but my female Weim. approved him. And he got bigger and bigger and the baby got bigger and beautiful and gentle and top dog - a Giant gray Weim. The vet in San Marcos said he hated to tell me but he thought that way back there was a Great Dane. :-)

Steve...not a bad price for such big panels but the shipping cost puts them well over a dollar a watt. I am buying two sets of these at just a hair over a dollar a watt with free shipping. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0725RZ22H/

Thanks, that is the best I've seen so far, the shipping is a major consideration for solar power, you can never have too many panels.

John, How many watts is that AC?
Have you considered a mini split? Most use 12 volt inverter technology where they ramp down on power usage as they cool. A larger initial cost but very efficient.
Isn't around a dollar a watt what the guy down the highway sells solar panels for?

Jon. The issue with a mini split is they start at 9000btu and off i recall John's shack is 128square ft correct me if I'm wrong he needs 5000 to 6000 btu max. Those mini splits look really nice and I have seen them at 18 seer for 110v and 22seer for 220v. The new window units are a lot more efficient than in the past .

I got a pretty effiecent 6000btu window unit in my bedroom.
There are lots of 6000btu mini splits. I found a Mitsubishi MZ-FH06NA 6,000 BTU 31.1 SEER Ductless Mini Split. It is 220v and very expensive.
Yeah an energy efficient window unit would probably be more cost effective than a mini split with such a small space.

Jon P...It is kind of a toss up on the mini split at this point. Here is my reasoning. I can always use more electricity but I only need AC about 6 weeks out of the year and I already have an air conditioner - and Pepino works fine the rest of the time and keeps me cool overnight using very little power (even during the HOT season when I need to run the AC in the afternoon). My Big Buddy heater that doesn't require any electricity is very economical to run on propane for the 4 month out of the year that I use it intermittently. My AC draws about 50 amps DC out of my battery bank. Right now I only have 42 amps coming in during peak hours. I'm not sure what prices they offer locally for solar panels - but the last time I checked, they only had 24 and 48 volt systems.

Well with your explanation the window unit is the way to go. I got a 5000btu window unit I used the week I was visiting my Terlingua place in August and ran it of my 1000 watt generator which is fairly efficient for using a generator.
When I checked solar prices down the highway it was for 24 volt and it was a dollar a watt for the larger panels.
Stay cool my friend!
