Enjoy the ride?

So social media is flooded with "suicide awareness" this week. FYI - almost 100 regular people kill themselves every day in the US - but a couple of celebrities off themselves and suddenly everyone is all about suicide awareness?  I think Matt Walsh hit the nail on the head here.  This quote from Anthony Bourdain that has been making the rounds on Facebook sends a very dangerous message straight from Satan.  With a life philosophy like that, it's not surprising that Bourdain chose to end the ride....

1 Corinthians 6 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Romans 12: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

But apparently it's OK to ignore Matthew 7

Matthew 7 has nothing to do with this post. People (non-believers, especially) love to pull out the "judge not" card. The point I was trying to make here is my observation about societies lack of commitment to our Savior and the Living Word of God. Sorry if you missed that.

My mistake, I don't know how I could have possibly interpreted your final sentence "With a life philosophy like that, it's not surprising that Bourdain chose to end the ride.... " as judgy. And since I did, clearly I was ignoring Matthew 7 at the time, but then again us Christians do like to pick and choose our verses. . .

I was making a statement about society in general and how they played up a quote of his as meaning it is OK to just live life the fullest with no regard for the afterlife. I had actually never heard of Bourdain, but his quote is rather significant as to how he chose to live his life and what his beliefs must have been. From what I have found out about him online, he had no belief in God nor had he ever accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. Had he done so, he would have never said the quote that is being used so frequently since his suicide. To use it as some kind of badge of honor after he killed himself is horrific. Is it judgmental to call out Satan's obvious influence on a celebrity (by his own words) and on society?

Never ceases to amaze me how people misuse and misquote the bible due to their ignorance or just lack of discernment. John is correct Greg. Jesus prohibits one kind of judging (or one motive for judging) but approves a different kind of judgement. Condemning others for their faults is failure to exercise forgiveness (6:14,15); only a gentle and humble correction that first recognizes one's own greater faults (the log in one's own eye) can help. There is also a necessary discerning kind of judgement that does not condemn but distinguishes unbelief from belief (v.6). The method of discernment is given in v.16. Jesus condemns those that reject him and his saving grace. Unbelief is the greatest sin of all. Once your dead there are no second chances. There is no purgatory that your family can pray you into heaven. This is why a death of an unbeliever is so tragic.

Unchecked depression is a terrible thing. You may attempt to defeat it but not succeed. This doesn't make you evil.

I saw a picture of him with his therapist woman. There are things to do to help defeat depression and obviously she did not do it by just laying him down and listening. A psychiatrist should have been involved too. They played his old food shows yesterday and I glanced at them and he did seem depressed. That is a horrible illness. I liked his shows in the past but I had noticed how layed back he was sometimes. It is a sad loss. I think he was a good man even though he made some flippant remarks. Depression is not something someone would want and a person can be born with the illness. Mental illness can run in families. (That's one of the reasons doctors talk about a person being born with good genes without all the illnesses).

What I think is remarkable is how he excelled and did so well in life despite his mental handicap.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." (Romans 12:1)

People who must depend on books of dubious provenance for second-hand advice living a life determined by our chromosomes and spontaneous daily events are almost always judgmental and unbearable to be around for long. Bourdain was a committed druggie, a narcissistic fantasist who knew better but just never got sober. We're all victimized by our limitations. Mr.Wells is a good example of that.
