John what if you build a jig with a measuring scale that sits a foot or so off the ground. Then give him his favorite treat under the jig then if you film it when he goes for the treat maybe you can get a freeze frame that shows the tip to tip when his head is down by the measuring scale.
Maybe you could tie a small loop in a string, go to the opposite horn, then measure the string? It looked like he objected to the tape measure. Maybe he has seen a bullfight and it looks like a sword?
A 72 yr old woman was recently gored by a buffalo several times while she was trying to take selfies at Yellowstone. I know he is your pet, but be careful. Not a good time to seek medical help.
