sinless?

Had a bit of a debate at church today.  Bonnie told us that the Bible promises that man can overcome all sin in his lifetime.  I contend that by accepting Christ, He begins to live through you and sinful ways begin to disappear but to be 100% free and clear is unlikely.  All it takes is one impure thought to ruin the record.  There is too much in scripture which must be understood within context for me to know what the answer is.  Raising the bar that high today kind of bummed me out...just when I thought I was doing pretty good.  Talk about a real commitment!  Is it possible to live without sinning?  The war is in our minds.

It is impossible to live without sinning. That is why Christ died for our sins so that we my live.

There was only one person in history that had the capacity to live the sinless life and that was Jesus.
The apostle John said in 1st John "if we say we have no sin then the truth is not in us"

I've never been able to accept the idea of "thought sin". We are assailed by temptations every day, it's how we act on them that counts. Anyway I'm not going to sweat impure thoughts too much if at all.

No.
It is not possible to live in this world, in this body and be sinless.

We are not intended or expected to achieve perfection in this life.

God's Word tells us in Isaiah 64:6 "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

This is only the journey to eternal life with God in heaven and then, and only then will we be sinless. But, we are to strive and pray for the strength we need through the Holy Spirit to exercise the gifts and live by loving our enemies and praying for those who persecute us because that is the character of God. We are to be like the Christ.

Romans 7:13-25 KJV

13Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Evidence has it that there is no god. So get on with your life and enjoy it as you can. You only get one.

It would be nice to say I have lived without sin, but I somehow don't think it is possible.

K1MGY - Amen. To have the capacity to reason, and to willfully go against reason would be the greatest sin...if there were such a thing as sin.

I don't know your Pastor, but agree with the intent. Yes. We may live without sin. It would be helpful though to define your meaning, or what is sin? The New Testament gives us the simple idea, "to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin." I believe that the desire of God is that we live above all "known" and "willful" acts against God. I have been living this wonderful life and it is real.
"How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?"
"He that committeth sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning."

+1 to JQ. John, get a Concordance, if you don't already have one, and look under "Sin". There are numerous passages dealing with this subject.

We live with sin until we die.Sin is a fact of life and even the Apostle Paul in Roman's 7:21-25  "I find, then, this law in my case: that when I wish to do what is right, what is bad is present with me. I really delight in the law of God according to the man I am within, but I behold in my members another law warring against the law of my mind and leading me captive to sin’s law that is in my members. Miserable man that I am! Who will rescue me from the body undergoing this death?  Thanks to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So, then, with [my] mind I myself am a slave to God’s law, but with [my] flesh to sin’s law.
So,don't get discouraged,Satan is the only one who wants you to feel as if you are not good enough,he is the only one that wants you to quit trying. Our loving heavenly father will always extend a loving helpful hand knowing that we are inherited sin from Adam, knows we are inclined to the works of the flesh,he will help us by means of his holy spirit as long as we work in harmony with our prays.

rpm said something about eternal life with God in Heaven. Does the Bible teach that?? rpm said, " only the journey to eternal life with God in heaven and then, and only then will we be sinless"
Does the Bible back up that statement??
Yes, some good people do go to heaven. A most interesting fact about good people, or true Christians, that is unknown to most churchgoers is that there are two groups. A small minority go to heaven to reign with Jesus Christ, while the majority will enjoy everlasting life on earth. Perhaps this surprises you. Therefore, let us consider what the Bible has to say on this interesting subject.

What was God’s original purpose for mankind? When he created Adam and Eve, did he intend that they should enjoy life for a while in the garden of Eden and then die and go to heaven? No. God gave them a special assignment as regards the earth, saying: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:28) And Jehovah does not change his set purpose. He declares, at Psalm 89:34: “The expression out of my lips I shall not change.” So the Edenic Paradise must be restored and be enjoyed by faithful servants of Jehovah—the majority group mentioned above.

The minority group are given a very special privilege, that of reigning with Christ in heaven. In other words, they will share with Jesus in governing those living on earth. This is the Kingdom government that Christians pray for in the Lord’s prayer. Interestingly, in that same prayer, we say: “Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth.”—Matthew 6:9, 10.

Does the Bible reveal how many are going to enjoy the very great privilege of reigning with Christ in heaven? Yes, it does. Says Revelation chapter 14, verse 1: “I saw, and, look! the Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads.” Keep in mind that Revelation uses many symbols, or “signs,” as expressed in the opening verse, Revelation 1:1. “The Lamb” is Jesus Christ. (Compare John 1:29.) And Mount Zion refers not to the political capital of Israel but to “heavenly Jerusalem.”—Hebrews 12:22.

Revelation chapter 7 gives us information about both the heavenly group and the earthly group we have mentioned. Verses 4-8 mention the 144,000 “sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel.” This is another case of symbolism and means spiritual Israel, or “the Israel of God.” (Galatians 6:16) Romans 2:29 says: “He is a Jew who is one on the inside, and his circumcision is that of the heart by spirit.” Revelation 7:9 next describes the earthly group, saying: “Look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues.”

Good People Will Live on Earth

Billions of good people will live on a paradise earth. (Luke 23:43) Would you like to be among them? Of course you would. What a privilege it will be to live on a cleansed earth that is free of pollution, famine, crime, sickness, suffering, and the ghastly prospect of nuclear conflict! Does the Bible really foretell such a thing? Yes, indeed. It says: “Evildoers themselves will be cut off, but those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. . . . The meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.”—Psalm 37:9, 11, 29; compare Matthew 5:5.

Francis Scott - A Jehovah's Witness? I hardly think John will go with the sectarian group (aka "cult") route. Let's see... Jesus a created being. Denial of the triune Godhead. Multiple false prophecies. Rewriting scripture to suit strange theology (New World Translation). Jesus hung on a pole or stake. No hell. Sketchy folks like Russell and Rutherford... and it just keeps on going! The Bible warns us numerous times about people who bring damnable heresies.
