NOTE: This is the last time I smoked pot. He brought some from Colorado and couldn't take what was left of it back through the border patrol checkpoint - so he left about an 1/8 oz here. I smoked a little of it then traded the rest for a frozen pizza.

haole visit over
Steve Hills left TFL today. We were neighbors when I lived in upstate NY. He did the architectural plans for the rebuild of my house while he was an architectural student...saving me a bundle of money. He also worked with me as a carpenter on the rebuild and on a big barn renovation. He and his wife moved to Hawaii 6 years ago but are heading back to NY with 2 little girls in tow. Steve bought this bus about 10 years ago and shipped it over to the island. Took him 4 years to rebuild the engine in his spare time (and probably another 4 to finish the body and interior). The wife and kids flew back east a couple of weeks ago while Steve closed up shop on the island. Cost him $1700 to ship the gherkin back to the mainland (Seattle) and he is slowly making his way back home to the land of snow, rock salt, and rust. 82,95,73,0,B

Sounds like Steve is having a good adventure.
have always liked that vehicle - except for the engine!
I wonder if anyone makes a modern version of that engine these days.
trading HI for NY and traveling through TX on a beeline from the POS in a German pickle… that's a hairy quandary -
there is a tale there, hope he departed with a bit of silver to commemorate the passage.
He must be a good friend. The Field Lab would be quite a bit out of his way.
Its not often I see the word haloe used , bay window buses are more common.
it was good to see both!
Why are they moving back to the mainland? I always ask "why you moving?" When i see someone packed up and going, even at rest areas. Im a mover...
just curious
I like to travel. Day trips. I like to come home in the evening.
Me too Sam.
I had a van of similar ilk a 1977 VW camper conversion - i.e. converted here in the US not at the Westphalia factory in Deutschland. I drove all around the US in that van (Pepe') and while it did have a few mechanicals it never left me stranded. I wish your friend tailwinds in getting to NY in his Van.
