We are just about in the middle of our dry season, so it's time to check my rainwater supply. The view from about 300' up as I run around and check my tanks to give you an idea of their placement on the property (can you catch me giving Ben a scratch?). Not a drop of rain since December 7th. Total rainfall for 2017 was 8.29" (the total the previous year was 12.37"). I currently have 15,650 gallons on tap - which in itself would last me about a year. My total storage capacity is 22,000 gallons and I only need 6" of rain per year to catch and store that much water. Consider this when thinking about all that free water from the sky - I spent $7500 for those storage tanks. The good news is, drilling a well would have easily cost the same with no guarantee of even hitting water. Ben enjoyed I bet. Good to see you are good on water for awhile.
Then that makes you a rich man out there.
Sometimes those wells can be muddy. I hear there is water everywhere out there 40' down or less but it possibly could have cost more to drill. Maybe someday you can still drill. That would probably up the value of your property. Is the rain water possibly more pure or not? (I did not see a piano in any of your pictures. That reminds me of the last vestige of culture from your past. Did you play?)
Margery - On your question about the purity of rain water compared to typical well water found on the Terlingua Ranch - my only comparison is the bulk well water sold by the Ranch office - versus my water catchment water. Their well water has such a high mineral content - it does not even make an acceptable cup of coffee. And it does not meet TEXAS legal requirements for drinking water. This is because the well they obtain it from - is too close to their horse stables. They use a different well to supply their restaurant, office, and motel water supply. Isn't that nice?
TY Ron. I always like your posts.
Fine place you have there. Always enjoy the blog.
