another flat...
Another busy day...got a tire done this morning at Terlingua Auto, baked super cookies all afternoon, and prepped a batch of hard white wheat bread dough to bake tomorrow. I had a non-repairable flat last weekend on an almost brand new Hankook Dynapro tire I bought from Discount Tire Direct. (And please don't bother to tell me about your super tires - I already know about them.) When I bought a couple of these for my truck in April, I paid $16 extra for a Certificate for Refund or Replacement for each tire - good for 3 years no matter how many miles you put on them. A 5 minute phone call last Saturday and my free replacement with free shipping arrived on Wednesday. A very good deal and painless customer service. 91,97,73,0,B

I love Discount Tire. Great service. Friendly and knowledgeable young men.
Good for you John money well spent.
Another interesting and extreme life style. This one seems to beg the arrival of a "black swan" event.
8 guns or not, how do you as an individual maintain personal and property security, avoid robbery, getting mugged? Vehicle issues? How do you receive mail, social security benefits? How near a main highway are you, anyway? And what about the scorpions, coyotes, snakes, etc. What happens if you have a medical emergency?
Unless you're a real estate developer on the make, this expenditure of your limited time on earth seems excellent therapy and little else.
1. No security issues or muggings in 10 years - I avoid circumstances that would cause them. (I never had those issues living 15 years in NYC either) 2. When I have a vehicle issue, I deal with it. 3. My mailbox is 2.5 miles away at the highway - FedEx and UPS deliver right to my door. 3. I rarely see scorpions, coyotes are not a problem, and I have only seen (and killed) 5 rattlesnakes. The only critter problems I have had are with raccoons - they killed four of my chickens. 3. I had a medical emergency 4 years ago and had to be airlifted to Odessa for a badly broken leg. I pay dearly for health insurance but only $65/year for medivac insurance - which covered my ride in the chopper that would have cost $46,000. Considering how off the beaten track I am, from the time of my accident to the time I was in emergency surgery 150 miles away was less than 3 hours. I spend my limited time on earth working on my relationship with Jesus Christ. Excellent therapy and there is little else that really matters.
To John Wells; AMEN!
Peter, thanks for asking those questions and John thanks for answering. Very insightful. I thought you would be *cough* old enough for medicare. Why pay dearly for health insurance? This is one thing I need to learn about as I am nearing that age and fully intend to retire in the area.
I am 6 years away from Medicare and I pay dearly for health insurance because I don't qualify for other taxpayers to subsidize my responsibility.
Well, I'll be. That long grey beard is deceiving. The $65 a year for medivac insurance sounds like a wise investment.
Really I am very impressed with this post. Just awesome... I haven’t any word to appreciate this post. Keep sharing the informative post like this.
