Melting silver with a propane torch can be pretty frustrating at times. If you are trying to melt more than 2 ounces of the precious metal, it is much easier if you use oxy/acetylene or a metal melting furnace. I am using a Bernzomatic TS8000 with and extension hose and a 20lb propane tank. When using propane, you can pretty easily melt up to one ounce by hand holding the torch but if you are doing more, it is best to position the torch and crucible so they don't move - otherwise you will find yourself chasing the melt around and parts will keep solidifying as you move the flame. I have found that positioning the crucible so it is tilted toward the pour spout works best as you need that pour spout to be red hot when you are ready to pour. Using a crucible that is very large can be a problem because the crucible will suck a lot of the heat away from the metal (note: the crucible I am using in this video is "almost" too large). Once you have a nice round pool of melted silver, give it another minute or two of heating then go for it by carefully moving the torch and crucible into position to pour. Keep the flame steady and pour quickly. News Theme 2 by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...)

Thank you, John Wells, for another great video. Interesting how the initial melt absorbs heat from the crucible, solidifies, and requires more heat to get molten enough for a pour. Among other issues, I’ve not been heating mine long enough. Really appreciate all the tips.
I wonder where you got the silver that you melted.
I bought the silver from The Scottsdale Mint.
