It has been almost a year since I had enough rain for the arroyo to run. This 3,000 gallon creek tank was pretty low after all that time with only about 100 gallons in it. I usually have to start pumping as soon as the heavy rain slows down to a drizzle because the arroyo only runs for about an hour. That is just enough time to transfer up to 3,000 gallons into one of these tanks (I have two by the creek) using a gas powered pump. That leg still giving you trouble?
Not really...I just climb ladders really carefully now.
Do you get a lot of sediment or debris at the bottom of the tank? I haven't been at my place during a good rain to see how much flows through my arroyo, but I imagine quit a bit. I probably need to put a game cam down there to see how the water flows. I also thought of trapping some of the water in some kind of stock tank for the local wildlife to drink. I know the birds, rabbits and occasional donkeys like to hang out down there in the basin.
I have filled this tank this way about 8 times and there is only about 1/4" of sediment on the bottom. When the creek water is pumped in, it is pretty milky - but after about 3 weeks it has all settled and the water runs clear when drawing it out of the tank. I use this water for everything except drinking. I get my drinking water from my roof catchment tanks.
Waste not, want not. This running water has always bothered me. What about catching it for the animals, or cleaning, or a good soak (and get an old fashioned metal soak tub from the hardware store). I guess when one is so rich with water, why bother. Maybe that seats the tank. Yes, it has been hotter here than the hinges on the gates in Hell. (I did not write yesterday or the day before because the air man had to come again - o.k.).
