Pouring 2 troy ounces of 999 fine silver into an open mold made with delft clay. The melting point of silver is 1,763° F. In order to get a nice rolling pool to pour, it has to be about 1,800° F. The hot silver flames a bit as it burns off some of the oil in the delft clay. Is any of the delft clay salvageable or reusable after a pour?
I dispose of the charred parts and about 1/8" around them and save the rest for re-use. Eventually what is left over becomes too dry to use. I have yet been able to find the precise formula of oil + catalyst to recharge dried out leftovers.
Are you going to give each person a heads up when you ship the crosses or should we just look for them in the mail box?
Nice.
BB...once the shipping label is printed, you will get an email notification and a tracking number.
