The American people lost 2 good men in the House of Representatives who despite being from opposing political viewpoints shared a set of core beliefs that the Federal Gov't. should exist for the benefit of the people and not the rich. The other man I speak of is Dennis Kucinich. The last true Conservative and Liberal have left the building. Now there's nobody left minding the store and the corporate thugs will loot America even worse than ever.

Peace and Tolerance. Oh where does that start with skyrocketing crime in our cities and corruption in our governments?

Roads and sewer systems are built by people not gov't's. Our gov't collects taxes and distribute them mostly into the purses of the rich. It does this because the gov't is run by corrupt politicians who only care about the voters at election times. Our current form of gov't has been taken over by a corporate hegemony has diverted the wealth created by the people to benefit the rich and not the people.

Sorry Rita, every crime statistic over last 20 years has fallen. You've propagandized into believe that crime is worse than it was but it isn't.

I can assure you Carlos the crime in Houston has not fallen, statistic or no statistic.

Too bad he wasn't as good a politician as he is a statesman. Why do those terms seem mutually exclusive these days?

I don't agree with much of his free-market ideals and his desire to return to extremely limited government. I think government does a lot of good. It is our expression of the society we desire to live in.

All that being said, I respect the man immensely. He is truly honorable and has seldom-seen integrity.

If only he was a better orator, he might have gained more traction. He sort of sounds like a cranky grandpa.

Ron Paul never said a thing pro or con while representing Houston's suburbs. I do like the counterbalance he brought to national politics in the last few elections, but much was ego driven. I believe he has tried to setup a path for his son, Rand Paul, the senator from Kentucky. Both are MDs which is one plus. I liked Howard Dean on the other side who is also a MD. The problem is when these guys say what they think, everyone knows how they think. Not good if you are trying to stay on the good side of Fox News or MSNBC. Government is useful: without it you would not have this computer or the internet and we probably would be speaking German today. Watch the new Oliver Stone history series on Showtime for a different perspective and then weigh the issues for yourself.

What Nick said. I give the man huge kudos for speaking what he believes and not giving in to the political dance. --However, I think his oratory skills are fine. What he doesn't have in the pack is a pretty face, which sadly, is needed by today's politician.

I've voted principally for democratic politicians over the past 35 years. I supported Dr. Paul as I agree that the American problem is rooted in moral relativism and utilitarianism. He is the only candidate (other than the Green Party) in the most recent Presidential election who brought actual issues to the table and had solutions to offer.

At some point the majority will come to find the choices made for them are unacceptable. Dr. Paul suggests that it would be far less of a mess if we reverse course before reaching that edge.

But, will we make it that far?

Recall that it was not too many years ago our economy was brought to a point where one more slip up and we'd be growing our own vegetables. I see that conditions are still quite close. A simple storm in the northeast, knocking down power lines, had an enormous impact. When the economic system (house of cards) we have collapses under its own corrupt bulk, we shall wish for a simple storm.

Growing vegetables. In this, John may have something to teach us all.

John, I'm a big fan of Ron Paul and watched his farewell address yesterday. Hopefully the people in our country will awaken and realize the mess we're in before it is too late to fix it.

America turned its back on the only man running that had a chance to set things straight. The future looks bleak and I fear the republic is in the end game.

The last true patriot in our government and the only one who seems to give a crap about our constitution on EITHER side of the aisle. He stood for so much and no one even cared. We live in sad times.

I respect John and I think he is an honorable man, but I agree with Larry G.

I don't care much for either Democrats or Republicans, but I see Republicans as the lesser of two evils. The mindset of the Dems is to take from the successful and give to the unsuccessful. This has been going on for so many years that it has bred an attitude of entitlement that threatens to destroy the nation. The recent election convinces me that it is now probably too late to save the nation. We are past the tipping point, and there are more people who want the government to provide for them than there are people who are willing to provide for themselves.

"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with their own money."
-- Alexis de Tocqueville

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years."
-- Alexander Tyler

The time is up. Our 200 years is over. The US will not exist in the year 2100.
