RIP Carl

Let Carl and the girls out just like I do every morning.  Late this afternoon, the hens were around but no sign of Carl.  Checked the coop and there he was - dead as a doornail.  Since I have no idea how old he was and there were no apparent signs of truama - perhaps he just died of old age....or too much love.  75,82,57,0,B,0

He was a Field Lab fixture. I'm glad Sela and I got to meet him, even if it was through the coop fence. I know you'll miss him even though he was surly as he got on in age.

sorry to hear that - if you are Ben's Pappy, then Carl was his older brother and overseer - there were a lot of great pics of those two while Ben was living next to the greenhouse. Carl was the Master of his Domain and he was lucky you were generous enough to let him think he ran the place… keep an eye out for any snakes.

are you going to boil him down to save his beak and feet and put them on a board and hang them on a wall? (what my son said about a fish, when he saw it mounted on a wall, along with the question, why would anybody do that?)

Poor ol' Carl, he will be missed. Now I won't have to worry about wearing flip flops when I come to visit.

Do you know if he might have bred the hens? It would be cool to have some baby chicks around the place.

That little pecker was a legend, and had a way with the girls. So glad to have met him, so sad for your loss. Hope his legacy will live on in the incubator!

JW, IMHO something never looked right about the photo that is pictured here.

Chickens, and other foul are known to attack snakes and in my honest option and how the sand is I feel he was after a rattlesnake.

I know this is late to add but it has bothered me since I seen it and felt it had to be something else.
