the shower is occupied...

Just discovered this nest in my solar shower a couple of days ago.  Looks like I am back to sponge baths for at least the next month.  Would hate to disrupt this family as the nest is right next to my pump and one of the parents is always on the nest.  I will be live streaming video on my YouTube channel every afternoon til they hatch and leave the nest.  This is a Eurasian Collared Dove.  Since I have been watching them, the father tends the nest during the day from about 10 AM to 6 PM and the mother takes the night shift.  71,79,53,0,B

I KNEW I heard doves cooing in that thrasher video a while back. Thanks for being a great steward, JW.

Anyone, eggs for breakfast? Sorry. :-) Sorry for your inconvenience. I'm glad you are taking such good care of them.
The bird looks so bright eyed and happy anticipating the wonder and miracle. In the Philippines a delicacy is punching a hole in the top of the egg and sucking out the chick and eating it. It is called Balute. I could not bring myself to try it but the other girls thought it was so good. It is amazing they found nest making material out there. The nest looks so sparce. Where do you suppose they found the twigs? Yes, I heard the doves too.

You could take a few day trips up to Balmorhea and walk and swim in the beautiful water and have a picnic. That would be nice. And even swing by Ft. Stockton and shop for a change also. When God shuts one door, he opens another. It will probably be more than a month until the chicks are independent. These birds are still rather rare here aren't they?

When you go to Balmorhea, you could even take a side trip to the observatory. There is a State Park with showers in Ft. Davis. Also, there is a river near you and also some showers near Study Butte for public use ($3.00 I think?). Sponge bathing will get old. But I suppose you could hook up some hose or have a bucket of water to pour over you. I think you have a big bucket you could fill with some water and sit in. You'll make it. :-)

This begs the question of shower frequency while living in the desert. Approximately how long does it take to build a nest and lay a clutch?

I shower about once a week - whether I need one or not.
