Excellent but exhausting work. Hope you are enjoying your well-deserved rest.

why no hangers?

I like the way the music co-ordinates with the action. I wonder how your rain situation is there. I just got home from San Antonio. After store closing on the way out, they lowered the warehouse closure and we were held in Costco for awhile (got a free soda) because of the Tornado warnings. Saw a few ditch accidents on the way back on the country roads from the intense rain and lightning. (But the Texas wildflowers were absolutely beautiful the other day when the sun was out).

remmij: I don't use hangers at the ridge beam because that joint is in compression. The only place I will use hangers is for the porch joists. I am going to add hurricane ties to all the rafters at both ends to resist uplift, racking, overturning, and sliding.

thanks… I was thinking it might make it easier, but all the little hanger nailing can be a pain… then I thought you might just like toe-nailing - the 'cane ties sound like a good idea - probably will be a fair amount of lift potentially on the porch/overhangs…
regardless of where the prevailing wind is coming from… did you use h-ties on the roof at your place?

I used lots of them on my little hut roof and the roof on Ben's barn.
