Hmmm. Interesting.
John, you seem obsessed with time pieces when you're in a place where, to an outsider, time doesn't seem to matter all that much. However, very cool analog clock!
Building interesting clocks has always been an interest of mine since my early days as a sculptor. Now I have "the time" to work on some.
I just re-read "Longitude" by Dava Sobel. You would enjoy it if you haven't read it already. It is an amazing story of how a self-taught clockmaker crafted incredibly accurate clocks in the 1700s needed to determine one's longitude at sea.
