the guts of the Hamilton...
Looks to me like the fast running problem with this wristwatch (almost 6 minutes per hour) is a hairspring that is sticking to itself because of too much oil. Going to try to clean it tomorrow. The balance wheel and hairspring is the most delicate part of a mechanical watch. Keep your fingers crossed... 93,104,77,0,B

What solvent are you using for a problem such a problem ?
What solvent are you using for such a problem ? Thanks.
Fingers crossed. Don't flinch.
I use good ol' lighter fluid for a solvent.
Thanks for the info and sorry for the redundancy.
I was just wodering if you were using MEK, ether, or ethyl chloride and then relubricating.
So will you have to completely disassemble the watch or just apply the naphtha to cut the oil?
I don't have the expertise to completely disassemble the watch...I just removed the balance wheel and soaked it in the naphtha. After a couple of tries I finally got the spring to cooperate and so far the watch is running right on time after 5 hours. I cleaned up the dial a bit and now I am just waiting for the new crystal to arrive.
