Pandemic Saturday

The pandemic grew to epic proportions thanks to Covid deniers and it very well could get worse or at the very least, drag on much longer than it should thanks to anti-vaxxers.  In the United States, this pandemic could've been over by now, and certainly would've been by Labor Day.  If the pace of vaccination through the summer had been anything like the pace in April and May, the country would be nearing herd immunity.  With most adults immunized, new and more infectious coronavirus variants would have nowhere to spread.  Life could return nearly to normal.  But unfortunately that is not the case.  Experts list many reasons for the vaccine slump, but one big reason stands out: vaccine resistance among conservative, evangelical, and rural Americans.  Pro-Trump America has decided that vaccine refusal is a statement of identity and a test of loyalty.  In the end, these unvaccinated idiots are inflicting a preventable and unjustifiable harm upon family, friends, neighbors, community, country, and planet.

Spot on John. It is the unvaccinated people who are now spreading Covid.

Yup. In my little county 300 or so miles NE of you, with a population of 30,000, only 33% have been vaccinated. Numbers for the old are better, 60% or so have had it. This last week, our numbers went up from 39 active cases to 103. And there are two in hospital, and 2 more have died, making a total of 142 since this business started. You can probably guess what sort of county I live in.

There will always be anti vaxxers(religious reasons, personal reasons or medically unable) and covid deniers(I have yet to meet one). But there are also people who have genuine questions about taking a rushed,no long term data vaccine. Some of those questions have been answered and some haven't(long term data for instance)but i don't see any positive outcome in calling people idiots because they won't blindly inject something into their bodies.

@Brian So far there have been over 3.89 BILLION doses administered. Side effects have been negligible. If you're still questioning the safety (efficacy has already been proven), I would suggest you DON'T get the vaccine. But Biden and Fauci have been accurate in describing this pandemic as now "a pandemic of the unvaccinated." If you don't the get the shot, you WILL get Covid-19 — that is all but guaranteed. Take your pick.

The way I see it, we may soon reach heard immunity via vaccinated and natural immunity. However, this (copy and paste link) is not good news.

You're fairly isolated out there, John. Your overall immune system may not be up to the task. So, you should take precautions. However, it's not the unvaccinated that's leading this uptick in cases. Most unvaxxed dont get tested. So how do you figure it's the unvaxxed that are the cause besides there being no evidence to support that assumption?
The ineffective vaccines are and exposing more to the original variant has led to a stronger variant, delta. My entire family including my 82 year old father all got it back in early June. No one died. Only my father was had severe symptoms and did spend a few days under his doctor's care in our small east Texas town's local hospital. I'm not giving up essential liberties for temporary, illusory safety.
