Pandemic Saturday

The amount of stupid people in the world is the reason the pandemic is going on much longer than it had to and why so many people are dying unnecessarily.  The stupidity is getting worse...

covid parties, de-vaccination, purebloods.

Pandemic Saturday

The worst side effect of COVID-19 is that it makes stupid people stupider and ordinary people stupid.  Some Proof that COVID-19 Makes People Stupid includes:

  1. Tens of millions are ignoring scientists and not wearing their masks.
  2. Millions of Americans think not wearing a mask to the grocery store is the same as Rosa Parks not sitting down on the bus.
  3. Tens of millions of Americans listened to a complete imbecile Donald J. Trump (R-Florida) instead of scientists.
  4. Millions of morons refuse to get vaccinated
  5. There are new conservative channels for dummies because Fox News was not stupid enough for some people.
  6. The Republican Party has abandoned the concept of reality.
  7. Vast numbers of people cannot figure out how to wear a mask. What’s so hard about covering your nose people? Remember, you breath through it.
  8. Conservative and Republican leaders are holding superspreader events so COVID-19 will kill their followers off faster.
  9. Congressional Republicans are not smart enough to reject the idiot who incited the lynch mob that almost killed them.
  10. Republicans think they can win elections by telling voters the election is rigged against them.
  11. Tens of millions of people are trying to bake bread at a times when the average supermarket has dozens of varieties of great bread for sale for under $5 a loaf.
  12. Many members of Congress are not smart enough to see that making cash payments and raising the minimum wage attracts votes.

So yes folks, coronavirus is making us stupider. Unfortunately, there is no vaccination against stupidity yet. On the positive side, COVID-19 could make humanity smarter by killing off millions of stupid people.

Pandemic Saturday

Rogers has repeated some of the most common misinformation about the vaccines and treatments that are circulating - a synthesis (or "best hits") of all the major myths, misinformation and bogus claims.  When they are repeated by someone with his level of celebrity and influence, it is very dangerous.  The stupid leading the stupid... 73,78,44,0,B

For those of you who follow internet conspiracy BS and misinformation about the pandemic (or any subject for that matter), keep in mind that websites that peddle that crap are not doing it inform or help you.  They are doing it because it is big business thanks to the huge number of stupid people in the world.  78,86,44,0,B

Pandemic Saturday

This video is appropriate when discussing the danger of the pandemic, especially when it comes to deniers and anti-vaxxers.  It is unfortunate (but apparently inevitable) that so many people cling to utter nonsense in relation to Covid-19.  As long as their numbers remain high (and there is no reason to believe they won't remain high) conspiracy peddlers on the internet will continue to cash in on these idiots.  Along with being "stupid" and a danger to everyone else, their condition is confounded by the Dunning-Kruger effect: a problem of metacognition - the ability to analyze one's own thoughts or performance.  Those with limited knowledge in a domain (and those who soak up misinformation) suffer a dual burden.  Not only do they reach mistaken conclusions and make regrettable errors, but their incompetence robs them of the ability to realize it.  What makes it even worse for the stupid is a little "confirmation bias".  They tend to seek out, interpret, and recall only information that confirms their preconceived notions and ideas.  In other words, people attempt to preserve their existing beliefs by paying attention only to information that confirms those beliefs and discounting information that could challenge them.  83,91,61,0,B

Pandemic Saturday

Seems the latest internet Covid preventative is gargling iodine.  The antivaxxer and conspiracy theorist idiots who deny all clinical science and common sense continue to cling to any alternative that pops up on their web browser.  It is really a shame that so many people use the web to spread such horrible misinformation not only about these whack job cure-alls - but also completely false theories about so called "big pharma", "government control", and misplaced beliefs about their "personal liberties".  FYI - bizarre alternative preventatives and treatments aren't being "suppressed" by the pharmaceutical industry, the media, the government, or some nefarious new world order cabal.  You aren't hearing about them aside from conspiracy websites because they don't work - plain and simple.

Pandemic Saturday

What is it with cowboys and covid?  For 12 years I have bought most of my feed supplies in Alpine from what used to be Johnson Feed & Supply and is now Out West Feed & Supply.  Throughout the pandemic, none of their employees have ever been masked nor have they ever requested patrons to be masked.  Rarely have I ever seen a masked cowboy shopping there.  In addition, several of there employees have told me they have no intention of getting vaccinated.  Since there is now a Tractor Supply right next door, I decided to give them a try for feed.  Not only are their employees masked, they also encourage their customers to wear masks.  I got all the feed I needed at a cheaper price and signed up for discounts through their rewards membership and their Tractor Supply credit card - and I got a free hat.  82,89,68,0,B

Pandemic Saturday

These kinds of stories of outspoken anti vaxxers dying are all over the news these days and will continue as anti vax idiots keep refusing the vaccine.  They are the new 99 percenters.  The vast majority of Americans who are getting serious cases of Covid-19 or dying are unvaccinated  The simple truth is the majority of deaths and hospitalizations from the virus continue to overwhelmingly be among unvaccinated Americans.  As of August 30, a little over 1.6 million Americans were hospitalized with Covid-19, but only 0.65 percent of them, or 10,471 patients, were fully vaccinated.

Pandemic Saturday

This article recently came out with the clickbait title "Questioning the catchphrase: Pandemic of the unvaccinated" - which most likely leads the idiots who are refusing the vaccine (without actually reading and thinking about what the article says) to think it means they aren't to blame after all for the surging pandemic.  The article's key points are as follows:  1. hospitalization rates among unvaccinated adults are 17 times higher than among those fully vaccinated.  2. the virus has reemerged in the southern United States primarily among unvaccinated people.  3.  unvaccinated people continue to account for the fast majority of those hospitalized.

The reason the catchphrase is in question has little to do with whether or not it's true...it's about the message it sends and worrying about how the public will react to it.  "It is true that the unvaccinated are the biggest driver but we mustn't forget that the vaccinated are part of it as well...the pandemic clearly involves all people, not just the unvaccinated".  Anyone with any common sense is aware of that - but the fact remains that it is the unvaccinated that are the MAIN problem.  The article goes on to say "branding it a pandemic of the unvaccinated is "provocitave" and "stigmatizes the unvaccinated".

The idiots who remain unvaccinated have an opposition toward Washington and there is concern that the more you stir the opposition, the more it convinces them to not give in. A poll in July found that 45% of adults who had not yet received the vaccine said they definitely would not get it.  2 in 3 unvaccinated adults said they had little to no confidence the shots are effective against mutations like the delta variant - although the data show vaccination dramatically reduces the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death.

Bottom line:  Unvaccinated Americans are still the ones most at risk and still the main ones putting everyone at risk.  Quit following the misinformation and conspiracy bullshit you read on the internet, get over your "opposition to Washington", and if being told you are the main problem in this pandemic is provocitave and makes you feel stigmatized...then tough shit.

Pandemic Saturday

COVID GROUND ZERO
Several members of this church on Terlingua Ranch have become ill in the past month.  The self proclaimed pastor as well some of the congregation are Trump supporting Covid deniers - anti mask and anti vaccination.  A relatively new resident out here who was a member of the church, died of Covid related complications 2 nights ago.  At least one other person is hospitalized.  It is difficult to get exact numbers or do any contact tracing as these folks are all being tight lipped about the situation.  It is believed that the deceased was infected by out of town guests.  The ring leader (pastor) is Hat Bailey...long thought of as a harmless eccentric due to his soft spoken nature and belief in bizarre conspiracy theories about government, etc.  Seems he no longer "harmless" as he is sinking deeper and deeper into his own little fantasy world of conspiracies and misinformation and his distorted views on the pandemic have made him a danger to himself, his congregation, and the entire community.

Pandemic Saturday

The evidence is overwhelming that the resurgence of the pandemic is the direct responsibility of Covid deniers and those who refuse to get vaccinated or practice any of the suggested safety guidelines.  Unfortunately, the future outcome of coronavirus on the population falls on the backs of complete idiots who follow the plethora of internet misinformation and conspiracy theories, and/or have distorted views of what they believe are their "personal freedoms".  If you express anything different in the comments - you obviously have no idea what you are talking about and you are part of the problem.
