what about using an electric jack-hammer?
I seen thease things for rent at tool rental places, may save you a mess of effort. Hook it up to your generator and diggin holes.

Fantastic rock specimen! After the first couple of holes, you seem to be getting your stride in digging them. I hope they're getting easier for you.
Just mix those rocks with cement and put them right back in that hole
Hey, John, I've hacked out some pretty hard holes for shrubs and trees up here in Connecticut, but nothing like the ones you dig.
