castaway monday

Put 3 new ingot molds into service today.  Two of them are for finishing up the limited edition ingots (I have poured 80 so far).  Just for fun I tried out a coin mold I got from Canvasman34.  Gonna use it for gifts for family.  My custom Benita stamp is due to arrive on Wednesday.  85,102,69,0,W,.40

John, you continue to work wonders. If you are successful with these first ingots, you may want to think about a series. A TFL, a Benita, a Carl ,a Mr. Floppy, a Ben and a Bud. Something I wouldn't mind passing down to my grand kids.

Thanks for putting me on to Canvasman34, I've picked up a micro-mini furnace and some graphite blanks that I've run off on a CNC machine.

I was wondering, what material are you were using there for your heat shield? I'd like to use something similar for mine in hopes of preserving my molds a little longer. Thanks!

It's just a chunk of 2" square steel tubing (3/32" thick) I cut to wrap a corner of the ingot molds. Really saves the mold from the blast of the torch. The exposed backsides still degrade but not as bad. To wrap the entire mold in steel would really help.
