I have been following Pastor John Wiley and the River Church in Kansas City for awhile now. Through his ministry, the non-profit he founded, and the community - he has been able to raise about two million dollars to make what was once just a dream - a reality. After 7 years of generous giving and hard work, the first 11 housing units are ready for families in desperate need of a jump start. His program is unique in that the goal is to help "working homeless" families by getting them out of expensive pay-by-the-week motels and provide them with free housing and assistance for a select period of time so they can get ahead and become self sufficient - finally able to afford their own housing. This is why they ask for money at church.
