Casting some bling...

Years ago Chupa tore off a spur and my friend Dwight Brooks made it into some bling.  Cast it in bronze this afternoon.  87,90,66,0,B

All good things must come to an end...

Had some errands to run in Alpine yesterday.  Over the years, I have left Chupa out during the day hundreds of times to guard the estate and he has always been there to attack unannounced visitors and greet me when I came home...but not yesterday.  No sign of what happened - no blood, no feathers, no Chupa.  I guess we'll never know - but I suspect fowl play by a predator who got lucky.  Chupa was a good egg...

BLING

Chupa got an early Christmas present.  My friend Dwight Brooks (of the Panther Mountain Clan) made this with the spur Chupa lost 2 years ago.  OK - it really wasn't for Chupa, but you get the idea... 72,85,49,0,B

rooster pedicure

Chupa lost a spur almost two years ago.  It actually grew back but was curling around and just about to start poking into his leg.  I have been trying to figure out how to deal with this for awhile now and finally decided to try my Dremel tool with a cutting wheel.  Cut off the pointy tip after several attempts while he was perched on my porch.  He kept moving around but didn't seem to mind the procedure (although he specifically stated that he DID NOT want me to paint his toenails too.)  78,87,52,0,B

Chupa on top...

Ever since I started training Chupa to jump up on my arm, he goes for the high road whenever he gets a chance.  If he sees me bending over while working on something in the yard, he makes his move and I end up with a rooster on my back.  Today he worked his way up to my head.  83,94,69,0,B

chicken doctor II

Took the bandage off Chupa's leg today.  He was a bit more cooperative with the removal but it still took some effort.  From what I have read, a spur will grow back if trimmed but when removed at the base they do not.  Either way - Chupa doesn't seem to care.  70,80,45,0,B

chicken doctor

The boys got a little rough this morning and the next thing I noticed was that Chupa tore a spur loose.  He didn't seem too distraught about it but he was bleeding all over the place.  I let him be for about an hour hoping he would be OK...but blood was still dripping out.  Worried that he might bleed to death I decided I had better take action.  Let me tell you - doctoring a chicken leg is no easy task.  After 5 tries I finally got the dangling spur off and managed to bandage his leg.  Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.  The rest of Proverbs 12 gives some very good insight into the results of good over evil....but you must take the appropriate action.
