Let's review the photos - Javelinas, rabbits, chickens, rats. Looks like a good place to hunt or trap? Maybe John can get some food out of that greenhouse after all?

John Wells said...

Hmmm, Ronald...I never thought of my greenhouse as a giant trap. Well done!

Maybe I have been watching too many survival shows on T.V.? Those hungry dudes will eat almost anything. I would use any captured rats - as bait to catch larger prey. like coyotes, badgers, bobcats, javelina, rattlesnakes, etc. - whose skins could be sold. Yes sir - that green house is like a giant magnet attracting all kinds of wildlife. Those chickens of yours must be pretty fierce fighters - to survive in such a hazardous environment?

Those pigs are one step down from a bear with their temper if riled. The big ones can really route up the ground digging long trenches with their noses and destroy a nice lawn or area. What are you going to do?

Margery Billd said...

People around here with beautiful homes and ranches shoot them if there is extensive damage.

You could take the meat to a place where it could be cut and dressed.

Javelina are a lot tougher game than deer but a well placed shot from a .22LR won't destroy much meat. You can't trap wild game in Texas without a permit. Javelina are a native species therefore wild game. Wild boar/feral hogs aren't native and therefore not game. Same is true with wild horses and mules, they're legal to trap in Texas. The only native sheep in Texas is the desert big horn, so there is open season on all other species of sheep. No native goats either. That being said always consult with your neighbors about sheep and goats before harvesting them.
