Shittim

  • Shittim, the plural of Shittah, which is Hebrew for wood from the acacia tree, which appears in the bible.
  • Micah 6:5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the Lord.
Wherewith shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
  • Micah 7:16 The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.
17 They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the Lord our God, and shall fear because of thee.
18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

I had all types of thoughts about Muslims and Christians when I read this-for some reason.

I want to clarify. I met Ted K. when he visited Juneau, AK, and it was at a public meal. He was a very presentable, clean, handsome caucasion man with pretty blue eyes and quiet. When I mentioned I attended Harvard when I was 16 and studied Japanese, we engaged in conversation. Outside I wondered who the unabomber was because it was in the news. We heard "Me" in the group. Everyone left, so Ted and I walked and engaged in small talk. I knew nothing about him. He sat by me on the bus and got off at my stop and walked to my apartment. The rain was so bad in Juneau. We said goodbye. There was an empty boiler room next to my door. I do not know where he stayed but there were empty wrappers there after a few days when the door was open. And there was a box by a tree several days later when he was there by the carry-out store. The tree was later blown up. (My amazing wolf-Shepherd dog pulled me away from bad situations). I guess he did not forget that I heard him say, "Me". So his mind in what he did was not right. I packed up and came back to TX. After I got my apartment, his capture was on T.V. It was so sad when he looked so disheveled. His brother had no choice and did the right thing and society a favor.
