rotten wires
Been having some internet issues over the past week...keep losing my connection. Was beginning to think that maybe my modem was overheating with my computer, weather station, and weather cam plugged into it. Today it got really bad and my phone had a lot of static...which gave me a clue. Checked my wire connection outside and sure enough it was in bad shape. Leaving it exposed to the elements for so long really took a toll. Had to peel it all back and reconnect some fresh wire - problem solved. I think I will put a little connector box on my next shopping list. Chupa was right there to make sure I did it right. 60,72,29,0,W

For a connection that must not fail:
clean flux from solder connections with hi proof isopropyl alcohol (not rubbing alcohol).
insure there is no stress on the wires. (solder is subject to cold flow)
embed them in a fabricated mold and fill with 3M 2 part epoxy potting.
Dale...or just "half ass it" and fix it every couple of years...
Just use some of those UV stable, cheapo sealed connectors that the phone company uses. They can get rained on, dusty, etc. and the copper inside will be fine.

It is amazing how we can learn and figure out so many new things when we have to. When I divorced many, many years ago, I did not even know what a fuse box was or how to wrap pipes, etc. When I moved out here I did not even know what a septic tank was or about large air conditioner/heaters. And I knew nothing about the Internet. And so on.
I even put new blades and parts on power lawn mowers, put in new Windows, put in new plumbing and other things Barnes and Noble books helped me with. Sometimes I used words from the book that store sales people did not know about and very often they told me to hire someone to do it. :-) But I saved a lot of money.
I guess one of the favorite things I did was wire the house to get International Short Wave. That was fun listening to world stations at night.
John being a lazy man I try my best to do a job only once but then I never had the benefit of a bird of Chupas stature to inspect my work. o7
I have no clue what you are doing out there but it is interesting and sounds impressive. Chupa, I noticed, is looking smarter.
Chupa is being home schooled.
